Jacksonville Jaguars Inside Slant: Blythe Brumleve Talks Cats' Camp

Nate DunlevyJun 1, 2018

Welcome to the Inside Slant, where each week we talk to a different blogger from around the division.

Today, we chat with Blythe Brumleve, the founder and lead writer for GuysGirl.com. She is an award-winning writer for both GuysGirl and Awful Announcing and is also a published author, with her first book, geared towards showing women the rules along with the culture of today's NFL, titled "A Girl's Guide to Football Fanaticism ." GuysGirl can also be found on Twitter and Facebook.

Blythe is a Jaguars season-ticket holder, and the poster girl for the Jaguars' franchise.

She is running a new campaign aimed at female fans. Every sport has those diehard fans who are season ticket holders, never miss a game and rock their team colors proudly. They also happen to be female.

She says, "We already know female fans exist in droves. But that doesn’t mean we ever get tired of hearing your stories. Simply fill out the form to send us a picture in your favorite team’s gear and your story could be featured on the front page of GuysGirl!"

B/R:   What's the most encouraging development of camp and preseason?

Brumleve: The most encouraging thing we have seen out of camp is the production of backup to Maurice Jones-Drew, Rashad Jennings. After being placed on the IR early last season, he is clearly showing no signs of a slow recovery.

Another bright spot during the preseason game was Blaine Gabbert's first series that was a 13-play. 89-yard drive that resulted in a touchdown. While he still needs work, that was exactly what you wanted to see out of the QB, who many have said has shown much improvement in camps this year.

B/R: What's been most disappointing?

The most disappointing part so far this season is the absence of Jones-Drew. He is a leader on and off the field, and clearly he's made his point he wants a new deal. But with the Jaguars making it clear they won't renegotiate contracts with two years or more still left, it's time for MJD to give in and get on the field with his team-mates to start building that chemistry.

B/R: Has your opinion of the team changed since before camp? How?

Brumleve: No. I have and still believe the Jaguars are a contender for the AFC South crown. We have a top-ranked defense, the best running back in the league and we addressed every single need we had during the draft and free agency. Including the punting situation, who they are calling infamous third-round pick in P Brian Anger, "Legatron." (We've got to spin this positive somehow).
