PGA Championship 2012: Day 4 Tee Times, Pairings and Projections

Alex HallJun 5, 2018

The third round of the 2012 PGA Championship has come to a close with some notable rises and falls by some of the sport's biggest names heading into the final round of play.

Vijay Singh and Tiger Woods saw their ranks go from tied for first place in the tournament down to tied for sixth heading into the fourth round, with Rory McIlroy using this opportunity to grab the No. 1 spot.

Carl Pettersson still finds himself in the hunt as well, currently holding second place. Pettersson, Woods and Singh will spend the tournament's final round chasing McIlroy and attempting to win the last major of the season.

Predictions

Call me crazy, but I still think Woods can finish within at least the top three by the end of the tournament. Yes, his meltdown in the third round is a huge concern, but considering how well Woods' 2012 season has gone, he's not going to settle for less in the year's last major.

Woods is currently at two under par which puts him just two behind Pettersson's mark of minus-four. Don't sleep on the four-time winner of this event with still a little golf left to play.

As for McIlroy, this is his tournament to lose, honestly. His minus-seven score heading into the fourth round gives him a three-stroke lead over Pettersson and he is five ahead of players like Singh and Woods.

There's always that chance of the improbable happening and McIlroy somehow plays badly enough to lose this cushy lead, but you won't see that prediction here. The Northern Irish golfer has this one in the bag; everyone else is just playing for second.
