UFC 150 Predictions: Shocking Upsets You'll Never See Coming
UFC 150 is upon us, and the stars are aligning for the latest the mixed-martial-arts promotion has to offer. The card is headlined by the lightweight championship rematch between Frankie “The Answer“ Edgar and Benson “Smooth” Henderson.
The experts have weighed in, and the smart money is on Henderson to retain the lightweight title against Edgar in their rematch from UFC 144.
Will it go down as planned, or will The Answer find a way to avenge his loss and regain his crown?
What UFC 150 fights will end in your scratching your heads in the early hours of Sunday morning?
Frankie Edgar vs. Benson Henderson
Frankie Edgar stayed toe to toe with Henderson in their first fight, on February 26, 2012. While Henderson may have controlled the Octagon overall, Edgar made it interesting and was never truly “out” of the fight.
The rematch Saturday has been anticipated and hyped up since that night and will give Edgar a chance at redemption from his UFC 144 loss.
That loss was only the second of his professional MMA career.
Perhaps this isn’t the most shocking prediction, but the way in which Edgar wins it is going to steal the show. If Edgar is going to win, he’s going to need to do it decisively, with a submission or a knockout. A five-round repeat of UFC 144 will end in another Henderson victory by decision.
Expect Edgar to do anything that it takes to avenge his loss and regain the lightweight championship.
Winner: Edgar via TKO, Round 3
Ed Herman vs. Jake Shields
These two middleweights have both had successful careers to this point. Ed “Short Fuse” Herman is the underdog as Shields is expected, in most circles, to come out the victor.
The key to this bout is that Shields is returning to the middleweight division after a disappointing run at the welterweight level. Stamina was a problem for him at the lighter weight levels, and he is not going to get a reprieve while in the Octagon with the well-conditioned Herman.
Herman’s size and power are severely being underestimated by most in this one.
His aggressive attack will wear down Shields early and score him a victory in the second and third rounds.
Winner: Herman via Decision
Yushin Okami vs. Buddy Roberts
Roberts will take on Yushin “Thunder” Okami in another middleweight bout at UFC 150. Roberts has only one UFC win under his belt and is in this match because of injuries to his and Okami’s opponents for this card.
I know what you’re thinking, easy win for Okami. Right?
Think again.
Okami is reeling from two consecutive losses and is ripe for the picking by the unknown Roberts. He isn’t a finisher, and neither is Roberts, but if Roberts can stay upright and keep the pressure off, anything can happen against a fighter who has lost his edge.
Another loss for Okami might signal the end of his impressive run in the middleweight division.
Winner: Roberts via TKO, Round 2
