Rangers Shopping For Scorer, Blueliner, Spirit at Trade Deadline

The Rangers just hired a new coach and now all they need is a scorer, a blue-liner, and some spirit. Picture the Rangers with Vincent Lecavalier, Tomas Kaberle, and Sean Avery added.

Rangers fans called for Renney's head and got it. They also called for GM Glen Sather's head, but that's a different story. Rangers fans have not forgiven Sather for losing Jagr, Shanahan, Straka, and Avery last year.

Jagr's under contract to the KHL, Shanahan's a Devil, Straka plays for HC Lasselsberger Plzen in the Czech Extraliga, but Avery is waiting in the wings, opening off-Broadway, with the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Avery's AHL team is on a three game winning streak and he just assisted on a winning goal in overtime. Martin Brodeur and the Devils don't want to see him with the Rangers again.

The New York Rangers replaced coach Tom Renney with John Tortorella on Monday. Some say they should make Mark Messier the coach.

The team MVP is goaltender Henrik Lundqvist.  Veteran blue-liner Paul Mara (shoulder, indefinite) is on the injury list.

Jay Bouwmeester, Marian Gaborik, and Scott Niedermayer could also be on the Rangers shopping list. Rumour has it that Lecavalier is not available, even though there was a lot of talk about him going to Montreal. Kaberle, on the other hand, is with a team that wants draft picks.

Scott Gomez and Chris Drury need somebody to get them scoring. Maybe that will be the new coach or Sean Avery or both of them. Markus Naslund has to be inspired, too.
The same is true for Wade Redden.

The Rangers have to keep Nikolai Zherdev but Lauri Korpikoski, Blair Betts, Fredrik Sjostrom, and Aaron Voros could be useful role players on another team. 
Free agent after free agent has gone to New York and performed below expectations, with the exception of Jagr, Shanahan, Straka, and Avery.

Sather says he loves Avery and, no doubt, he hopes the super-pest can get the Rangers stirred up again. If he had the help of Lecavalier and Kaberle...
