WWE Backstage News: Randy Orton Not Working SummerSlam

According to the man himself, it seems that Randy Orton will not be on the upcoming SummerSlam card.

Answering questions on Twitter, Orton revealed that he may still be in the WWE doghouse regarding his recent indiscretions.

When one fan asked why he wasn't on any promotional material, Orton replied, "Because I'm not working."

The news will be surprising to some, who expected the superstar to jump straight back into action following his return.

But it seems that there is no place for one of the company's biggest draws at the pay-per-view.

Orton began a two-month suspension on May 30 for his second violation of the WWE's Wellness Policy, returning at the earliest-possible chance on the July 30 Monday Night Raw.

It is still unknown exactly what substance The Viper was found to have had in his system.

With a feud between World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio well underway, it was believed by some that Orton would slot in, making it a triple threat match at SummerSlam.

But it seems that WWE officials have decided that they are too far into preparations for the event for this to happen.

There is also the possibility that there is still some ill-feeling toward Orton regarding his violations, and keeping him from one of the biggest PPVs of the year may be punishment.

If this is the case, fans of The Viper will hope that he returns to the main event after Aug. 19.

Whether or not he competes for gold remains to be seen.
