Les Brown: Everything You Need to Know About Dolphins 'Hard Knocks' Star

Chris TrapassoJun 6, 2018

We were expecting to see plenty of Ryan Tannehill, Reggie Bush and Chad Johnson on the Miami Dolphins' season of HBO's Hard Knocks.

We weren't expecting Les Brown.

Frankly, many weren't even aware that Brown was on Miami's roster.

But in the first Hard Knocks episode on Tuesday night, the mysterious tight end was welcomed into thousands of households across the nation.

So, who is Les Brown exactly?

Here's everything you need to know about him.

He Was an All-State Receiver in High School, Got Major Scholarship Offers

1 of 5

Brown isn't an average Joe with little to no football background trying to make the NFL.

He was an all-state wide receiver on his high school team in Salt Lake City, Utah. And he received offers to play football at Oregon, Washington State and Brigham Young, according to a column in the Seattle Times column by Steve Kelley

In the same article, Hall of Fame quarterback and BYU alum Steve Young raved about Brown's ability as a football player.

Said Young: "He should have played college football, and he should have been very good. He had the talent."

I'd say so, Steve.

Via ProFootballWeekly.com, Brown ran a 4.43 seconds in the 40-yard dash and had a 39-inch vertical jump. He maxed out at 365 pounds on the bench press. For some perspective, Brown’s 40-time and vertical jump would have been the best among all tight ends at the NFL Scouting Combine.

He Decided to Play Basketball at NAIA Westminster College

The 6'4'', 190-pound Brown ultimately decided to play basketball, his first love, at nearby Westminster College.

From Westminster's official athletic website, some of Brown's basketball stats:

"

Brown played in 91 games as a Griffin, including 34 starts in his junior year during the 2008-09 season. He averaged 1.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in his career and he ranks eighth in school history with 23 blocked shots.

"

So, while he was far from a premier scorer or rebounder, the 23 blocked shots are a great indication of his springy athleticism.

His Girlfriend/Wife Is Hot—or at Least She 'Usually' Is

With all the eyes that were on Lauren Tannehill and the wives of Matt Moore and David Garrard, no one saw Brown's girlfriend/wife coming.

We only caught a side glimpse of the slender brunette talking to Les after a practice, but Brown kicked off their conversation with a suave, "You look hot, as usze."

Looks like we can add another good-looking girl to the show.

No complaints here.

His House Burned Down When He Was a Kid

4 of 5

When Brown was a mere four-and-a-half years old, his house burned down, and he almost lost his young brother in the fire.

Via the Seattle Times:

"

He remembers the horror of seeing his father and brother emerging from the flames, charred and bloodied. He still can feel the panic that was beating inside him like a second heart.

"

Brown had this to say about the terrifying event:

"

I remember being so scared and panicky. I didn't know what to think. And all of a sudden my dad comes running out and he's basically on fire and he has my brother clutched in his arms. My brother wasn't moving and I didn't know what the deal was.

"

Quite the horrifying experience for a kid not even five years of age.

He Worked in Finance

5 of 5

Brown was pursuing a degree in finance from Westminster College, so not surprisingly, he was working in finance before he decided to try out for the NFL.

Les worked at Huntsman Gay Global Capital, co-founded by Steve Young, the same place his father worked.

After spending time in Huntsman's West Palm Beach office, Brown had plans to return to Westminster College in Utah to finish his degree.

Last summer, when Les traveled with his brother Braden to find a good trainer to ready the offensive lineman for the NFL draft, Les was discovered.

After three months of training, he opened many eyes with a phenomenal work out.
