HBO Hard Knocks: Chad Johnson, Vontae Davis & More Surprises from Dolphins Camp

Alex KayJun 6, 2018

The Miami Dolphins gave the world a glimpse of their training camp on Tuesday night’s “Hard Knocks” program on HBO. It was a wild ride that showcased many different aspects of the offseason for a team that is on the rise.

There were quite a few interesting performances from members of the coaching staff and certain players on the roster, but these following performances stood out of the most.

Chad Johnson

The artist formerly known as Chad Ochocinco is back to his old ways it seems. He was laughing and joking around for much of the episode and even decided to humorously attend a coaches-only meeting.

He’s certainly a natural for the cameras, but it will be interesting to see if Johnson can return to his former productive self on the football field.

Vontae Davis

Davis was once one of the most promising young cornerbacks in the NFL, but he has run into numerous problems with teammates and coaches during his time with the Dolphins.

Now he’s got a problem with his fitness.

Richard Marshall has surpassed the former Illinois standout on the depth chart for now, as he is clearly out of shape and ill-prepared for coach Joe Philbin’s tough conditioning regiment.

Davis must get into shape or risk his career being irreparably damaged.

Quarterback Battle

At the end of the episode, Philbin named David Garrard the top QB, while Matt Moore is the backup and Ryan Tannehill will be a third-stringer.

However, he left the door wide open for the latter two men to take a shot at the current starter, and anything could happen over the next few weeks.

Garrard hasn’t played since the end of the 2010 season and was unexpectedly released before the ’11 campaign. He had surgery and should be fully healthy, but he’s got a long way to return to his old form.

Tannehill and Moore certainly both have a shot at knocking the top dog off his throne.
