Manchester United Transfer Report: Van Persie Still Keen on a Move to United

With Lucas Moura all but confirming he'll soon be heading to Paris instead of Manchester, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson seems to be running out of transfer options (via ESPN).

However, a report in British tabloid The People on Wednesday claims that the trail linking the club with Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has not yet gone cold.

The story reveals that United are the Dutchman's preferred destination, ahead of rivals Manchester City and Juventus.

If forced to sell, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would surely like to shift van Persie abroad for obvious reasons.

But with doubts existing over Juventus and City's viability in the transfer race, it seems that United are currently in the hot seat for his signature.

"Robin Van Persie wants a move to Manchester United - but faces a nervous wait to see if the Old Trafford money men will cough up the £25 million Arsenal are demanding," the report claims.

It also alleges that, "United boss Sir Alex Ferguson would love Van Persie to link up with Wayne Rooney and has cash to spend."

Such a price tag would raise eyebrows due to the player's age and past injury problems.

But the addition of another world-class striker to the squad, despite United's current depth in the position, may just tip the balance in their favor.

With the start of the Premier League season less than two weeks away, it is looking increasingly unlikely that Sir Alex will be able to add to Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell in the signings department before then.

Whether or not van Persie will make the shock move to Manchester remains to be seen.
