Olympic Results 2012: Most Dominant Performances from Day 11's Action

Ian HanfordJun 7, 2018

Day 11 of London's Summer Olympics was eventful, much like the rest of competition has been. Medal-winning performances dazzled spectators, and qualifying events provided eye-catching action.

Olympic action isn't going to pause itself, but that doesn't mean we can't take time to review a few of Tuesday's events. A few performances were so dominant that they demand our brief attention one more time.

Let's take a look at three athletes, or teams, who put their best foot forward on Tuesday.

Ghasem Gholamreza Rezaei

Rezaei earned a gold medal in his division of men's Greco-Roman wrestling. He defeated Rustam Totrov 3-0 in just two periods.

The Iranian wrestler used his strength to win the 96 kg/211.5 lbs. division in London. Totrov tried to elude him, but Rezaei was simply too much for the Russian grappler to overcome.

Greco-Roman wrestling isn't for the meek. These are huge athletes throwing opponnets out of the way as they chase a coveted gold medal. Rezaei's performance in the gold medal match was dominant and impressive considering the difficulty of his event.

Take some time to watch Olympic wrestling. It's not for everyone, and that's what makes it so impressive.

Alistair Brownlee

I'll stick with the ultra-obscure and the extremely difficult. Brownlee swam, biked and ran his way to a gold medal in the men's triathlon.

The time differential between him and second-place finisher Javier Gomez isn't much. Brownlee came in at 1:46.25, and Gomez finished with 1:46.36.

It was the way Brownlee won that sets him apart.

Entering the final leg (running), Brownlee was in third place. Instead of losing ground, he found his extra gear and hoofed it down the race's backstretch.

Watching him run down Joao Silva was impressive enough, but Silva was deteriorating on his own. Gomez and Brownlee's brother, Jonathan, were making a tough push for the top spot.

Alistair Brownlee used an impressive third leg to win the gold medal in this year's men's triathlon. His final leg was dominant enough to earn him a spot here.

Team USA Women's Basketball Team

The American women defeated Canada 91-48 on Tuesday. They now advance to the semifinals, and there is no reason to doubt their gold medal credentials.

It's not just about their margin of victory. It's about how they won. Team USA is an offensive juggernaut, but they forced 26 turnovers. If they play defense like that consistently, you will be hard pressed to find any challengers.

DIana Taurasi (15) and Candace Parker (12) led the team in scoring, and the overall team effort was excellent.

Missed shots early on kept this one close for a bit, but Team USA's dominant defense was too much. Canada couldn't get anything going, and they were overwhelmed.

Offensively, the American squad wound up getting things in gear, and their defensive pressure never quit.

It was expected, but this performance was another statement.
