Olympic Basketball Scores 2012: US Women Dominate Canada to Advance to Semis

We all knew what was going to happen when the U.S. women's basketball team faced Canada in the quarterfinals at the 2012 London Olympics on Tuesday, but it's still impressive every time this team dominates.

The U.S. women rolled to a 91-48 victory on Tuesday, with five Americans scoring in double digits.

Diana Taurasi led the team with 15 points, adding four assists and three rebounds. Candace Parker and Sylvia Fowles added 12 points each. And Maya Moore finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.

The Americans shot 47 percent as a team on Tuesday and held the Canadians to 30 percent from the field. They also outrebounded Canada, 45-29 (including 14 offensive rebounds), and had 10 turnovers to Canada's 22. On top of that, they converted 19 of 23 free-throw attempts in the game.

Across the board, the U.S. women were dominant on Tuesday. The game was practically over as soon as it started as the U.S. got off to a 19-8 advantage after one quarter of play.

This is nothing new, of course. The Americans have outscored their opponents by an average of 37.6 points through six games in London this summer. By comparison, the U.S. men have outscored opponents by 38.2 points thus far.

The U.S. women have also collectively forced the most turnovers in the tournament (137), per London2012.com. On top of that, they have the most assists (147) and they've outrebounded opponents, 315-187.

It's been an all-around team effort by the U.S. women. No American ranks in the top 10 in scoring average so far, yet the U.S. has averaged over 91 points per game.

By the end of 2012 London Olympics basketball, the U.S. women may prove to be more dominant than the U.S. men.

The U.S. women face world No. 2 Australia in the semifinals on Thursday.
