Tiger Woods: 8 Reasons Why Tiger's a Lock for the PGA Championship Win

David LevinJun 7, 2018

We are just waiting to see what happens.

Three days and counting—personally, I cannot wait.

With a rejuvenated swing and a focus that seems to be close to what it used to be when there was ice in his veins, it looks like Tiger Woods is pretty darn close to being back to his old self.

And the second position in the World Golf Rankings is helping to prove it to be true.

When Tiger is playing well, like at the Open Championship before his fall on the back on the back nine on the final day, the PGA and fans will benefit.

Is Tiger back to the 2000s version? Probably not. But with a course like Kiawah looming and Tiger just itching to get out there Thursday, here is a look at why Tiger could be a lock to win his 15th major in his career.

If so, Jack Nicklaus could be hearing a knock on his trophy case pretty soon.

7,400 Yards

Courses like these are made for drivers like Tiger.

The fact that the course is long and could play right into Tiger's wheelhouse could mean there are some great under-par scores this weekend.

This course will benefit not only Tiger but the entire field. We all love the long ball, and Tiger hits it better than almost anyone.

Big-Time Game, Big-Time Player

When Tiger is on the leaderboard and close to the top or at the top, there is no one better mentally.

It used to be that Tiger could just walk out on the course and golfers would shudder when they saw him.

Could he recapture that kind of intimidation?

We can only hope so.

Something to Prove to Himself

There is a burning desire every great athlete has, and proving to themselves that they can go out day after day and deliver is part of that desire.

We miss the swagger. We miss the brashness. We miss the charge.

We want to see if Tiger has something inside himself that will get him beyond the hill and into the winner's circle.

The Epic Fail

After Brandt Snedeker fell apart after 36 holes, it seemed it was Tiger's turn to flex his muscles.

The course beat Tiger up along with others.

That should not happen on this kind of a course.

But watching his bunker game at the Open Championship just proved he is not totally back.

Yes, it was an epic fail.

Par 70

Another one of those things that sets up nicely for him.

Do you get the feeling the PGA and the course managers are setting this up with him in mind?

It used to be that courses were made to be Tiger-proof.

Now, they are begging him to take charge of their courses and destroy them.

Proving It to the Younger Generation

6 of 8

Nothing would be more spectacular than seeing Tiger Woods in the final pairing on Sunday with a Rickie Fowler or Rory McIlroy or someone of the "new" generation of golfers.

Tiger now must change gears. While he had to prove to the world a decade ago that he was better than all the veterans on the course and in the field, he must show he is better than the younger crowd and the ones who have new game and new equipment.

This also falls into the mental toughness aspect of his game. Can he recapture that fire?

The Best of the Best Will Be There

7 of 8

Luke Donald, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood.

It does not get much better than that.

And with the world's stage looking in on South Carolina, it is time to show he is the best there is, the best there was and the best there will be in the future.

Could Tiger reclaim the top spot in the world golf rankings? Yes, and this would be the place to start.

A Springboard for Things to Come

Could this be the type of win that causes the outbreak we have all hoped for?

The one that leads to two or three more wins? Could this mean more than one major win for him next season?

Major wins have a funny way of multiplying like fruit flies.

This could mean he is right back on track, chasing Jack Nicklaus and the 18 major titles in Jack's bag.
