PGA Championship Odds 2012: Golfers Worth Betting on at Ocean Course
The 2012 PGA Championship is up for grabs this August, as the first three major tournaments of the year have been won in shocking fashion.
Still, there are a handful of solid golfers who are worth betting on at Ocean Course on Kiawah Island this coming weekend.
A pair of past tournament champions and a hopeful top the list. Check it out.
How can you not bet on a four-time PGA Championship winner? For all of Tiger Woods' struggles over the past four years since winning the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines, he still has the skill and experience to outlast the field at Ocean Course this summer.
He can tie Walter Hagen and Jack Nicklaus with a fifth Wanamaker Trophy this weekend, and that's saying something. Tiger finished third at the British Open in July, and he has showed glimpses of the old Woods, including emotional fist pumps after big-time bunker shots.
That's the Tiger we all know and cheer for. Bet on him at Ocean Course.
Lefty won the PGA Championship in 2005, so he can't be counted out in 2012. Although Mickelson had a disastrous outing at the British Open last month, he is always a threat at the season's last major tournament. Mickelson finished tied for seventh in 2008, and he has eight career Top 10 finishes at the PGA Championship.
OK, so it's not the Masters, where Mickelson is always a favorite, but it is a tournament where Lefty has excelled over the years. Given his combination of natural ability, experience and desire to win a fifth major, I like Mickelson to contend through all four rounds this weekend.
Louis Oosthuizen
The 29-year-old South African nearly won the 2012 Masters last April, and has broken through at every major tournament other than the PGA Championship. With that said, one has to believe that a golfer of Louis Oosthuizen's caliber will find his rhythm eventually.
Oosthuizen's calm and collected demeanor on the course is a promising attribute for those looking for a worthy bet this weekend. Oosthuizen had a solid stretch during the second and third rounds of the Open Championship last month, and he is one of the top international prospects to watch for and bet on this August.
