This Week In The PGA: Mayacoba Classic Chance Of a Lifetime For a PGA Player

This week there are two opportunities for PGA players.

An elite group get together at the Accenture Match Play Championships, including Tiger Woods returning to life on tour, and Phil Mickelson, who won last week at Riviera.

Meanwhile, at the Mayacoba Classic in Mexico, a group of not so elite players will compete. They will have a chance to notch a tour victory, get an invite to the Masters, and all the other Majors for this season and years to come.

This is a group of players that do not rank in the top 132 in the world. But are searching for an identity and are struggling for a victory on the PGA Tour.

In Tuscon, most eyes in the golf world will be upon Tiger Woods. He plays for the first time since his victory last June in the US Open, where he beat Rocco Mediate in a playoff.

I, personally, believe he will play like he never missed a step and make it to the final match. Of course, completing his returning tournament with a win.

Who could think not?

Last week Phil Mickelson almost blew the win at Riviera, but finished strong and pulled out the victory.

I stand at 838 points in Yahoo fantasy golf, and a position of 46, 847 down 504 positions from last week.

My team last week of Jim Furyk, Charlie Hoffman, Rory Sabattini, and Retief Goosen netted 122 points for this tournament.

I had thought about taking Phil Mickelson and Fred Couples since they play well here, but talked myself out of a winner.

This week is really tough trying to pick a winner in Mexico with all the top players in match play at Tuscon this week.

I have settled with Kevin Na, David Toms, Bo Van Pelt, and Scott Verplank.

On the bench will be John Merrick, Brett Quigley, Frederick Jacobson, and Charles Howell III.
