Baseball's 20 Best Viral Videos

Mark MillerJun 4, 2018

The advent of YouTube has given us a great way to access digital media, and while Major League Baseball works hard to keep their content off of it, there's plenty of other videos worth seeing.

Whether it's a kid with too much time on his hands executing some trick shots, a manager going on an animated tirade or a prank executed to perfection by a player in spring training, one can spend hours on end scanning through the Internet to take it all in.

Major League Baseball can sometimes make it tough to keep these clips online, but here are some videos that have garnered plenty of attention in recent years.

Tim Hudson Becomes a Murderer (Sort Of)

1 of 20

With as much free time as starting pitchers have on their hands, I guess it's not all that surprising to think that they're typically some of the biggest pranksters in baseball.

If I were Atlanta Braves bullpen coach Eddie Perez, though, I'd find a way to get back at Tim Hudson.

Delmon Young Tosses Bat Toward Umpire

2 of 20

Delmon Young has a whole new set of issues to face after his arrest last week, but that wasn't the first conflict surrounding the former No. 1 overall pick, as he once threw a bat at an umpire in a minor league game, earning himself a 50-game suspension in the process.

Ball Girl "Catch"

3 of 20

Videos definitely lose some of their luster once you realize they're not real, but this one with the girl doing her best Spider-Man impersonation is still entertaining.

Another computer-enhanced video here, but definitely worthy of a couple looks.

Rosin Grenade

5 of 20

Managers have been going off the handle for quite some time now, and while most tirades are confined to some screaming in the face of umpires, this minor league manager finds all sorts of ways to voice his displeasure.

Kelly Johnson's Walk-Up Music

6 of 20

Many pranks are centered around clubhouses and spring training, leaving fans in the dark.

Every once in awhile, however, fans are lucky enough to enjoy the humor of these situations.

That was the case here, as Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Kelly Johnson came up to bat, only to hear that his at-bat theme song had been changed to "It's Raining Men."

Batting Stance Guy

7 of 20

The many exploits of "Batting Stance Guy" are pretty entertaining, as a quick scan of his YouTube page will uncover many different recreations of various teams' stances.

Sausage-Gate

8 of 20

Randall Simon became the center of a sausage conflict in Milwaukee a few years ago, after he took a swing at one of the running sausages that race during the seventh-inning stretch at Miller Park.

Izzy Alcantara Kicks Catcher, Charges Mound

9 of 20

There really isn't much to say about the video here involving Izzy Alcantara's infamous kicking incident.

It's just so stupid that any player could actually think that under any circumstances anything good could possibly come from doing something like that.

Foul Ball Causes a Commotion

10 of 20

It's not all that rare to see a ball tossed into the stands end up in the wrong hands, as there are so many hands grabbing for it that you can't expect it to work out every time.

However, it doesn't always turn into a national story as it did in Texas when this young fan found himself on the losing end of a ball that was headed his way.

Big Unit Blows Up a Bird

11 of 20

Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I can't even imagine what the odds are of this occurring.

Fan Gives Ball to Daughter, Then Loses It

12 of 20

Every fan hopes for the opportunity to take a ball home with them when they leave the stadium, and a father wants nothing more than to be able to give that souvenir to his child.

Unfortunately for this father, his daughter was paying a little too much attention during the game and took after the players on the field, as she hurled the ball as soon as she got it in her hands.

Squirrel Takes over a Game

13 of 20

This happens frequently enough that it's sometimes surprising that it's as big of a deal as it is, but any time an animal makes their way onto the field of play, people are bound to notice.

Backman Blows a Gasket

14 of 20

WARNING: Explicit Content

I can't speak to Wally Backman's fiery nature during the rest of his managerial career, but I find it odd that on a day when he just happens to be miked up for a game, he unleashes one of the most brutal tirades in baseball history.

Mariah Carey First Pitch Fail

15 of 20

First pitch fails aren't all that uncommon, but seeing pop star Mariah Carey head out to the mound in mile-high heels, you had to know this was a disaster from the start.

Billy Ray Rojo Johnson

16 of 20

Venezuelan pitching star Billy Ray Rojo Johnson's baseball career in America was quite short, as he made just one appearance—in fact, it was just one pitch with the Round Rock Express.

He may be onto something with his replacing of the rosin bag behind the mound with a plastic bag full of beer, though.

Flip over Catcher

17 of 20

Athleticism helps any baseball player thrive on the diamond, but flipping over catchers just isn't something that you see everyday, as Fordham's Brian Kownacki displayed amazing skills and ended up on ESPN in the process.

Harvard Baseball Team Covers "Call Me Maybe"

18 of 20

The Harvard baseball team's rendition of "Call Me Maybe" gave Carly Rae Jepsen an early boost towards stardom, as the video gained national attention from the minute it made its way to YouTube.

Blind Kid Throws Perfect First Pitch

19 of 20

Humorous videos often take precedence over inspirational ones when it comes to taking attention on YouTube, but it's hard to ignore the video of this kid who managed to heave a perfect strike over the plate before an NLDS game last year, despite being blind.

Kyle Kendrick Gets Traded to Japan

20 of 20

There really isn't much to say here other than that this has to be one of the best pranks in baseball history.

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel does a great acting job in making Kyle Kendrick truly believe he's on his way out the door.

The feeling of being traded can't feel good, especially when you think you're headed to the other side of the world.
