Olympic Soccer Standings 2012: Canada Will Be Toughest Test Yet for Team USA

Brian MaziqueJun 5, 2018

Team USA has cruised passed all challengers up to this point, but the picnic may be about to end. Canada will be the American women's opponent on Monday, and the neighbors to the north are no pushover.

They have compiled a 2-1-1 record in Olympic play, and their lone loss came to the other powerhouse team in the field, Japan. Canada drew with Sweden in their last match in group play to round out the only matches they failed to secure a win.

Even with those blemishes, they clearly represent the best team the American women have faced.

Team USA has been truly dominant. They have outscored their opponents 10-2 and they have yet to be pushed in any match. Even their 1-0 win over North Korea was never really in doubt.

Team USA vs. Canada will be only one of the semifinals matches in women's soccer. Japan will also battle France for a shot at playing for a gold medal on Monday.

Team USA has defeated France 4-2 already in group play, but they haven't played Japan as of yet.

The Japanese's stifling defense could also be an issue for Team USA. The two teams could make for an interesting gold medal match.

But before that can happen, they must dispatch of Canada and France, respectively. The matches should be exciting.

Here's the tournament schedule for remaining matches in women's soccer:
