Sid The Kid, Centre, With Avery The Agitator, Left Wing, For Pittsburgh Penguins

Sidney Crosby has burned through wingers the way Spinal Tap went through drummers, Micheal Farber says in the new issue of Sports Illustrated.

He says Sid the Kid needs to create the Warrren Young Effect. Mario Lemieux turned Warren Young into a 40 goal scorer the way Wayne Gretzky turned Blair MacDonald into a 46 goal scorer.

Crosby has a huge number of assist without really clicking with one winger in particular. He has tried Rusian Fedotenko, Petr Sykora, and several others in his short career in the NHL.

So what he needs is a winger who can go into the corners, get him the puck,  then get in front of the net, and distract the goalie, or take a pass and score, or bang in a rebound.

Evgeni Malkin can do all that and more but the Penguins need their other superstar to lead a line of his own.

Another thing Crosby's winger has to do is come to his rescue when an opposing player is pestering him, the way Sean Avery likes to.

Nobody gets under Crosby's skin like Avery, apparently.

Avery might be a very good choice as Crosby's winger for the above reasons.

Very few NHLers have defeated Avery in his 53 fights over the past decade.

Everyone hates to  play against him, so it's better to play with him.

Right now, he's playing his way back to game shape in the AHL, after undergoing anger management, and by all accounts he's now ready to play in the NHL without making any inappropriate comments.

Yes, Avery could be Crosby's Warren Young. Avery scored 18 goals in his best season so far. Crosby could double that or, to compete with Mario and Gretzky, triple it.

Sean Avery scoring 52 goals per season? Why not? It's a new era of hope and change everybody except the Dallas Stars hopes Avery's changed.

He made the Rangers a better team, last year. Picture the Penguins playing with that New York swagger, instead of missing the playoffs this year.

After that last game between the Penguins and the Washington Capitals, wouldn't Crosby and like to see Avery take on Ovechkin?!
