Pennsylvania 400 2012 Results: Reaction, Leaders and Post-Race Analysis

Pete SchauerJun 1, 2018

Jeff Gordon recorded his 86th career Sprint Cup victory in the Poconos at the Pennsylvania 400 in what was just a 98-lap race due to torrential rain and fierce lightning.

The victory for Gordon is a record sixth win at Pocono and snapped a 31-race winless streak.

The start of the race was delayed nearly two hours due to rain and was again stopped by the late-afternoon storm that swept over the track.

A caution by Kurt Busch on Lap 86 resulted in a restart that saw Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Kasey Kahne, Greg Biffle and Brad Keselowski take the lead, but a slippery track saw Johnson crash into Kenseth, causing a wreck that allowed Gordon to take the lead and eventually win.

NASCAR made the results official via their Twitter page, tweeting:

"

The race is official. @jeffgordonweb wins a record 6th race @poconoraceway #NASCAR

With the win, Gordon clinched the No. 2 Wild Card spot in the standings.

Reaction

Despite it being a rain-shortened race, it was good to see Gordon snap his winless streak.

If there were one place that he was going to do it, I guess it would be at the Poconos, where he now holds the record with six wins.

It seemed improbable for Gordon to make it through the wreck that saw Johnson slam into Kenseth, who crashed into Hamlin, but Gordon was able to avoid the chaos and find victory lane.

Here's some reactions via Twitter:
