The Doctor's WWE SmackDown Recap: The 159 Things We Learned, Loved and Hated

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 7, 2018

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to my weekly SmackDown recap list. I always appreciate my loyal readers, but for those of you who are new, each week I recap SmackDown with a long list.

The entries are made up of equal parts observations, humor, recap, play-by-play, revelations, speculations, questions, answers and anything else I notice during the show. I sometimes comment on commercials, too, just because I get bored during them.

I try and interject some fun into these lists, so I hope you have fun reading this week's list of the 159 things we learned, loved and hated from the show.

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

1. Vince McMahon comes out to start the show.
2. He looks like he is in a good mood tonight. He did a little slide from behind the curtain.
3. He smiles as the crowd gives him a deserving pop.
4. He talks about finding a new GM for SmackDown.
5. Its Booker T. Booker comes out to a nice ovation.
6. Michael Cole gives us the bad news that Booker being GM means no more Bookerisms on commentary.
7. Booker thanks Vince and the board of directors for giving him the job.
8. Alberto Del Rio interrupts him very early in his speech.
9. Not Cool. He needs a scissor kick for being rude.
10. Del Rio congratulates Booker and says he knows Booker is happy because he gets to work with Del Rio.
11. Booker calls him out on being a suck-up and says he needs to be better at it.
12. ADR dishes out some insults towards Sheamus, who makes his way out to the ring while Del Rio is talking.
13. Sheamus congratulates Booker as well and Booker seems happy to accept the kind words.
14. Sheamus runs down Del Rio for not wanting to compete between now and SummerSlam.
15. Booker says both men will have matches tonight, which pisses Del Rio off.
16. Do I see some gray in Del Rio's sideburns?
17. Booker reminds Del Rio that he is the boss and that ADR must compete if he says so.
18. Book says ADR will face Randy Orton, which sends Del Rio into a fit as he leaves the ring.
19. Sheamus gets to face Tensai right away to start the show.
20. These two had a good match several weeks ago. Maybe they can do it again.
21. I think Tensai is a Star Trek fan. I heard the word Sulu in that video they showed of him talking about Sheamus in Japanese.
22. After the break the match starts and Tensai and Sheamus try and gain control by locking up and pushing each other around the ring.
23. Sheamus nearly knocks himself over when he runs into Tensai.
24. Tensai puts Sheamus in the corner, but Sheamus fights back with a few strikes.
25. Haha. Tensai slaps Sheamus and screams "Come on!" before Sheamus takes him down and lays into him.

26. Tensai quickly regains control before missing an elbow drop that gives Sheamus the chance to kick him out of the ring.
27. It was kind of funny when Tensai and Sheamus shoved Sakamoto back and forth between them.
28. Sheamus with an impressive show of strength as he skins the cat to get on the top turnbuckle.
29. Tensai is on the outside of the ring when he catches Sheamus and runs him into the ring post before another commercial.
30. Not a bad match, but their first encounter seemed more brutal from what I recall.
31. I think Tensai could be valuable as long as he is faces people who can almost match him for power, like Sheamus.
32. After the break we see Tensai still in control of Sheamus.
33. Sheamus tries to lift Tensai for a slam but can't get him up and Tensai takes advantage.
34. Tensai goes up to the middle turnbuckle for something but Sheamus starts hitting him in the back of the legs to stop him.
35. He tries to get Tensai up for an electric chair but he decides to knock Tensai from the top rope to the floor instead.
36. I gotta give him credit for that bump. You don't see guys his size take falls like that very often.
37. Tensai has a gigantic welt on his stomach which looks like it could be bleeding a bit as Sheamus hits the Irish Hand Grenades.
38. These two must really be having a stiff match.
39. Sheamus lifts Tensai for a power slam in a nice show of power.
40. Tensai hits his modified Spinebuster for the pin, but Sheamus kicks out at two.
41. Sheamus is able to hit the Brogue Kick for the win after avoiding Tensai in the corner.
42. I do like how Sheamus actually ran the ropes before hitting the kick. It looked way more devastating with him running full force before hitting the kick.
43. He should do it that way more often.
44. What would possess Michael Cole to say Shucky Ducky Quack Quack after Sheamus won the match?
45. Doesn't he realize you only say that for hot women?
46. Eve is backstage vying for a job with Booker when Teddy Long walks in.
47. Booker offers him a job, which really upsets Eve.
48. Booker sends her packing to end the segment.
49. Teddy Long saying "Its gonna be on like a pot of napalm" made me laugh for some reason.
50. Nice! When we return we see Antonio Cesaro in the ring with Aksana.

51. Has anyone ever played the game Velvet Assassin? Aksana reminds me of the girl in that game for some reason.
52. Cesaro says hello in five languages before the match for some reason I don't quite comprehend.
53. Santino comes out to face him.
54. Aksana looks insanely good, but can someone explain why Aksana has a zipper on her outfit right across her chest?
55. I just answered my own question, didn't I?
56. Cesaro starts punishing Santino right from the get-go.
57. Santino comes back with his signature hip toss and he takes out the Cobra sleeve from his singlet very early.
58. Cesaro stops him in his tracks, but Santino goes for it a second time and hits it.
59. Cesaro is able to get his foot under the rope to break the pin.
60. When Santino goes out to make Cesaro get back in the ring we see Cesaro whip him into the barricade really hard.
61. Cesaro rolls Santino back in the ring before hitting his finisher for the win.
62. Cesaro makes out with Aksana after the match. I guess he will probably get a title match soon since he has beaten the champ twice in a row.
63. I just wish WWE had put more time into Cesaro before just throwing him into a title feud without any character development.
64. I think he will be a huge star some day, but they need to give him more to work with than just being a former Rugby player who now wrestles and makes out with hot chicks.
65. Wait a second, that is an awesome life to have. Never mind. He is fine how he is.
66. Commercial. Did anyone see the new Total Recall? Is it worth paying to see in the theaters or should I just wait for it to come to NetFlix?
67. Daniel Bryan is backstage wearing a No No No shirt talking about how he does not want the audience to chant Yes anymore.
68. He is really upset that everyone is stealing his catchphrase.
69. What!
70. Bryan looks like he is going to pop a blood vessel as he screams No over and over at the end of the interview.
71. Chris Jericho drops the lights to cut Bryan off before coming out for the next match.
72. His Vitamin C partner, Christian joins him before Kane comes out as their third partner.
73. They are set to face Miz, Dolph Ziggler and Daniel Bryan after the break.
74. The crowd chants Yes as he comes to the ring screaming No.
75. He went from the most dangerous heel in WWE to being an angry dwarf. What the hell happened?
76. Christian and Bryan start the match off as the crowd chants Yes loudly.
77. Bryan goes right for Christian and starts stomping him over and over.
78. Christian gets Bryan on the middle rope and he leaps over the top, but Bryan moves before Christian can hit the slap.
79. Christian comes back in and gets a near fall after a missile dropkick.
80. Kane tags in and comes off the top rope with a clothesline to Bryan.
81. Michael Cole is spewing garbage about a Twitter feud between AJ and Vickie.
82. I swear, my brain shuts down as soon as they start talking about social media. I took my eyes off the screen for a few seconds and all of a sudden Miz is in the ring with Chris Jericho.
83. Jericho taunts Ziggler after he takes Miz down.
84. Ziggler slaps Jericho in the back of the head as he bounces off the ropes and it gives Miz the chance to tag out.
85. Ziggler tags in but Jericho takes him down quickly and begins working him over.
86. Jericho whips Ziggler into the ropes and Ziggler uses it as an opportunity to take a powder.
87. We go to commercial as Ziggler hides behind Vickie to avoid Jericho.
88. We return from the break to see Miz in control of Christian.
89. Miz gets a near fall before he tags in Bryan to put the two men who started the match back in the ring together.
90. Bryan kicks Christian repeatedly int he chest before getting a two count.
91. Mr. Ziggles tags in and gets a pair of quick near falls.
92. A Y2K chant starts up as Christian fights back for a second before eating a dropkick from Ziggler.
93. Best dropkick in WWE today, even better than Orton.
94. Christian puts a pair of boots to Miz to get some room and both men crawl towards their corners.
95. Y2J tags in for the hot tag on Daniel Bryan.
96. Jericho manages to take out Ziggler on the apron before hitting a running bulldog on Bryan.
97. Jericho celebrates a bit before hitting the Lionsault only to have Ziggler break up the pin.
98. All hell breaks loose and everyone is in the ring one second and out of the ring the next.
99. Jericho and Bryan are left in the ring and Bryan misses a wild kick.
100. Wow! The ending to that match was really good. Y2J had the Liontamer locked in when Ziggler came in with the briefcase only to have Jericho hit a Codebreaker on him, allowing Bryan to roll Jericho up for the pin.
101. Jericho looked awesome in that match. I think Matthews was somewhat right when he says Ziggler lit a fire under Jericho.
102. It has seemed to me that Jericho is amping it up a little bit since his return following the suspension.
103. I hope he and Ziggler have a SummerSlam match that just blows everything else out of the water.
104. It is funny to see Bryan not know what to do after the match. He doesn't want to yell Yes like he usually does,
105. Hahahahahaha! Bryan and some guy at ringside at screaming right in each other's faces with Yes and No back and forth.
106. That fan's face got so red as he and Bryan were holding those last Yes and No screams. That was a funny interaction that looked like it was not planned.
107. Matt Striker is backstage talking to Randy Orton about how it feels to be back.
108. A promo for the Streak DVD for Undertaker is shown.
109. Here is a stat for you. 11 of the 17 men he has faces at WrestleMania are no longer with the company.
100. A-Train (Tensai), Big Show, Mark Henry, Randy Orton and Kane are all still full-time and Triple H is a part-time wrestler/full-time executive.
111. Jinder Mahal is out after the break to face Ryback again.
112. Ryback's eyes are really bloodshot.
113. Do you think he bounces up and down while he is sleeping, too?
114. Whoa! Ryback speaks!
115. They show a video of him talking about why he is in WWE. He talks about the food chain and feeding him more.
116. Ryback goes right to work on Mahal, slamming his head into the mat repeatedly.
117. Mahal hits a few kicks followed by a running knee to take Ryback down, but Ryback comes back with a quick spinebuster.
118. Mahal rolls out of the ring and grabs a mic to hit Ryback with.
119. I am assuming no steel chairs were handy and the ring bell was nailed down, because a mic is the stupidest thing he could have grabbed as a weapon.
120. We see The Prime Time Players backstage harassing a merch salesman about not having their shirts on display.
121. Do they have a shirt yet? I thought the thing they wear with all the sparkles were just for them to wear.
122. I wonder how restrained AW will be on the mic after the Kobe joke he made on Monday.
123. I wonder if anyone would have even made a big deal out of it had WWE not mentioned it instead of issuing an apology right away?
124. R-Truth is out first to face Darren Young in a singles match.
125. Truth starts off strong, but Young hits a power slam to reverse the momentum.
126. AW distracts the ref while Truth is on the outside so Titus O'Neil can attack him.
127. Kofi chases AW off after Kofi takes out O'Neil.
128. AW threw his coat at Kofi before running off. What is it with him and whipping various articles of clothing at Kofi? I admit that I laughed pretty hard on Monday when he yelled "Yo Mama" before whipping his shoe at Kofi.
129. Titus takes out Kofi and this allows Young to hits his Gutbuster finisher for the pin and the win.
120. AW comes back out to congratulate Young on his victory.
131. After seeing the B-A-Star promo I have come to a conclusion. The kid from Two and a Half Men is the next Jonathan Lipnicki.
132. I asked a Doctor once and he said the human head weighs 15 pounds on average. That little kid was a liar. I bet his neighbor didn't have three rabbits either.
133. Ugh. Jerry Maguire references? whats wrong with me?
134. Layla comes in and congratulates Booker after the break.
135. Cody Rhodes comes in and says it is good that a former superstars at Booker's age can still find purpose.
136. Booker announces Rhodes vs. Sin Cara for next week.
137. Layla's cameo is the first time I thought about the fact that she is Divas Champion in about two weeks.
138. Randy Orton is out first for his match against ADR.
139. Del Rio gets to drive a 1953 Rolls Royce into the arena tonight. I guess no one set anything on fire.
140. I think that is my favorite car he has ever driven to the ring.
141. Del Rio backs Orton into the corner right away but Orton comes back with punches and a big clothesline.
142. Orton gives ADR a trio of clothesline in the corner before mounting him for 10 punches in the corner.
143. Del Rio gets Orton outside the ring and he punishes him with a nasty kick while Orton is down against the barricade.
144. He puts Orton back in the ring and he slows down the pace with a modified rear headlock.
145. Orton hits his signature backbreaker our of nowhere to gain back control.
146. He begins to circle Del Rio while stomping on various body parts, but he misses the leaping knee drop.
147. Del Rio hits a enziguri to Orton's back for a near fall.
148. Wow! Del Rio kicked Orton right in the face at one point. They had a really nice close up of it happening and you could see it actually make contact.
149. Orton avoids Del Rio in the corner by throwing his legs up on the top rope and then he rolls over to get a near fall.
150. That was a nice little spot. It looked like Orton was laying on the ropes the way Eddie Guerrero used to do before his matches.
151. Orton starts going to work on Del Rio, hitting all his signatures.
152. He sets up for the RKO before Ricky Ricardo comes in and breaks up the match and ends it with a DQ decision.
153. After the match is over Orton ends up dropkicking Del Rio off the top rope to the outside.
154. Sheamus runs down and throws Del Rio back into the ring so Orton can plant him with an RKO.
155. The show ends with Orton standing tall in the ring and Sheamus yelling "Welcome back, fella!"
156. Solid show. Nothing of any real consequence happened, but we saw some good wrestling.
157. I hope Cesaro gets some more time to develop his character if WWE gives him the US title.
158. Ryback finally talking is a step in the right direction. I don't think Jinder Mahal will be the first person to beat him, so this is probably just an extended squash feud waiting to end.
159. I hope Orton gets the next feud for the title because Sheamus and Del Rio cannot continue past SummerSlam.
