South Korea's Weightlifting Olympian Jaehyouk Sa Suffers Horrible Injury

Gabe ZaldivarJun 7, 2018

South Korea's Jaehyouk Sa suffered an injury that was horrific, heartbreaking and, as it were, elbow dislocating.

The Daily Mail (h/t BuzzFeed) reports the weightlifter initially accomplished a snatch lift of 158 kg (348.33 lbs). The defending gold medalist from the Beijing Games was attempting to lift 162 kg (357.15 lbs) before suffering his injury.

Be warned that the following images are not for the squeamish.

Sa was able to get himself just under the bar before his right arm hit a point of no return. His elbow couldn't take the added pressure, and he went down in a heap.

That's when the heart breaks for a former champion who knows his chances for a medal are gone at the London Games.

The Daily Mail reports that Chinese weightlifter Xiaojun Lu broke two world records on his way to gold.

Lu managed to lift 175 kg in the snatch for a record and then also lifted 204 kg in the clean and jerk, setting a new world record at 379 kg.

We have enjoyed so many great moments through an amazing first week of Olympic coverage. Unfortunately, this is one of the more awful memories.
