Roger Federer: Wimbledon Champion Will Advance Past John Isner

Alex HallJun 7, 2018

Switzerland's Roger Federer has been on a quick rise back to relevance in the world of tennis. His most recent victory came on the court of Wimbledon, where he will take down American John Isner.

Federer will face a tough task in Isner, who was a part of the longest tennis match in the history of the sport in the 2010 Wimbledon tournament.

That won't intimidate Fed, considering he's coming off a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Denis Istomin and regained his world No. 1 ranking just a few weeks ago.

Names like Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have taken the spotlight off the decorated Swiss in recent years, but it appears Federer has regained his old dominant form, as evidenced by his Wimbledon victory. The All England Club has been kind to Federer lately, and considering it holds so many great recent memories for him, it's almost as if he has a home court advantage during these London Games.

The seven-time Wimbledon champion is the No. 1 seed at these Olympics for good reason and has the ability to defeat Isner in two sets the same way he did Istomin. Fed's American opponent is no slouch, as Isner is the the 11th-ranked men's tennis player in the world right now.

All credit to the American, though; it's hard to imagine Federer being upset, considering how much success he's seen on the courts of Wimbledon in just the past month, let alone his career.

Fed knows these courts better than any current male player out there, and Isner has never made it past the second round in his career at the All England Club tournament.

Look for Federer to win this match with relative ease and continue to add to his tennis dominance over the past month.
