Chelsea Transfer News: Chelsea Fail in Opening Bid for Cesar Azpilicueta
Chelsea have reportedly had its opening bid forย Cesar Azpilicueta rejected by Marseille as the club looks to bring the Spanish international to Stamford Bridge over the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old is believed to have been the subject of aย ยฃ5.4 million bid by the Champions League victors, but that offer has been rejected by his current club Marseille, who want closer toย ยฃ8 million for the Spanish right-back.
According to The Daily Mirror, Chelsea's failed bid is unlikely to deter them away from the defender, and it is likely to increase its offer over the next few days.
"Chelsea have had aย ยฃ5.4 million bid for Marseille's Spanish international right back Cesar Azpilicueta rejected.
Marseille wantย ยฃ8 million for the 22-year-old and the European champions are likely to increase their offer for Azpilicueta in the next few days.
"
The Spanish international was strong yesterday in Spain's scoreless draw against Moroccoโgaining plenty of go-forward up the right wing and chiming in well with his country's attack, despite the lack of goals that they produced throughout the tournament.
Chelsea have already splashed out more thanย ยฃ70 million this summer in bringing the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Marko Marin to Stamford Bridge, but aren't showing any signs of slowing downโindicating (via The Daily Mirror)ย that it would still like to sign more players over the transfer window.
Azpilicueta could well be one of those players and would be an excellent signing for Roberto Di Matteo's men, especially with the departure of Jose Bosingwa and the uncertainty as to where Branislas Ivanovic will feature in defense next season.
Azpilicueta is a ready-made right back with a bright future ahead of himโthe only question that remains as to whether or not that future will be with Chelsea.
Will Chelsea sign Cesarย Azpilicueta over the summer transfer window?
