Olympic Medal Count 2012: Nations That Will Boost Total with Big Day 6
The rich are going to get richer in Day 6 of the 2012 Olympics. China, USA and Japan are currently the top three medal earners from these games and they are all set to have big days.
China and the U.S. have been locked in a virtual tie for the top spot nearly their entire stay in London. At the end of Day 5, China has a one medal lead at 30 to 29. Japan is a distant third with 17. You can see the full medal count, at the end of Day 5 below, but first, here is how these countries will boost their totals.
USA
Day 6 Medal Predictions: 8 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze
The U.S. is going to have a huge day. They have gold medalists in waiting ready to compete all over the place. That includes Ryan Lochte and Tyler Clary going in the 200-meter backstroke, where they will be battling each other for first and second.
They also have marksman Joshua Richmond in the men's shooting double trap, Kayla Harrison in the women's 78 kg judo and Rebacca Soni in the 200-meter breaststroke who should all claim gold.
Then they have the American men ready to dominate in the 200 individual medley. They are a certain lock for gold.
That will all take a backseat to what happens in the day's highlight—they have Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas, of the Fab Five, ready to compete in the all-around gymnastics competition.
That one could go either way, but I am going with Douglas, who is so confident in every event, taking the gold and Raisman winning bronze.
China
Day 6 Medal Predictions: 1 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze
Four medals in one day is fantastic for any country not named China or the United States, but for China, it is rather pedestrian.
China is an absolute lock to win a gold in the the men's table tennis final. That final is going to come down to Zhang Jike and Wang Hao, both of China.
They also have serious medal contenders in shooting and archery. Fang Yuting is headed for a bronze in the women's individual archery competition and Hu Binyuan is ready to claim a silver in the men's double tap shooting competition.
Japan
Day 6 Medal Predictions: 1 Silver, 2 Bronze
Japan is going to have a nice day in the pool. They have backstroke master Ryosuke Irie on tap for the men's 200-meter backstroke. I've got him slotted for a silver.
They also are ready to pull some hardware in the women's 200 backstroke with Satomi Suzuki. Mark her down for a bronze.
The other bronze for Japan is going to come from the men's 100 kg judo competition with a bronze as Takamasa Anai is ready to continue his stellar play.
