Olympics 2012 Schedule: Star-Studded Events You Must Watch on Day 6
Day 6 from the 2012 London Olympics will feature a handful of must-see, star-studded events, including some can't-miss action from Basketball Arena and the sand at Horse Guards Parade.
Each highlighted event will feature big-name American Olympians going all out in their quest for gold.
Without further ado, here are the events you must watch on Day 6 from London.
Women's Individual All-Around Gymnastics Competition
Start Time: 11:30 a.m. ET
Coverage: NBC, 8 p.m. - 12 a.m. ET
American superstars Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman will both take center stage at North Greenwich Arena on Day 6, shooting for individual Olympic gold after winning team gold on Tuesday. Douglas dominated the competition at the U.S. trials earlier this summer, and she is the favorite to win gold in the all-around after Jordyn Wieber failed to qualify on Sunday.
The two teenagers, Douglas and Raisman, will be competing against each other as well as a pair of gifted Russian gymnasts. Both Viktoria Komova and Aliya Mustafina are capable of winning gold and at least posting a podium effort. With the defending world champion in the all-around not competing on Day 6, the gold is up for grabs and should make for an extremely entertaining watch.
Rogers and Dalhausser Battle Czech Team in the Sand
Start Time: 4 p.m. ET
Coverage: NBC, 8 p.m. - 12 a.m. ET
The defending Olympic champions in men's beach volleyball, Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser will continue their run to a repeat gold medal on Thursday when they take on the Czech team of Petr Benes and Premysl Kubala. The two Americans are 2-0 through their first two matches in London, and they have only dropped one set so far.
American fans won't want to miss the action from London's Horse Guards Parade on Thursday night. Rogers and Dalhausser will be the favorites to win, but the Czech squad is coming off a win of their own in their most recent outing. The road to a consecutive beach volleyball gold won't be easy for the Americans, but it is guaranteed to be entertaining.
Team USA Takes on Nigeria
Start Time: 5:15 p.m. ET
Coverage: NBC Sports Network, 5:15 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. ET
Expect a blowout of epic proportions when Team USA takes on Nigeria in men's basketball on Thursday. The Americans will be led by a handful of NBA superstars, including LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant.
Regardless of how out of hand things get on the scoreboard, fans and viewers will have plenty to cheer about and a great deal of highlights to replay on their televisions over and over.
Team USA beat France by 27 in their opening matchup. They then destroyed Tunisia on Tuesday, winning by a margin of 47 points. If the pattern continues, the Americans are poised to win by a historic 67 points on Thursday against the Nigerians. I'd say that qualifies as must-see television.
