Chad Le Clos' Father Steals Show After Son Beats Michael Phelps in 200
These Olympic games are not about Michael Phelps. He had his day in the Beijing sun, now giving way to other athletes' glory and some memorable moments like this one with Chad Le Clos' father, Bert.
Tuesday saw Michael Phelps jump in the pool with 17 medals and emerge at the end of the day with an Olympic-record 19.
However, his first final of the day went to South African Chad Le Clos who took gold while the favored Phelps settled for silver.
Phelps beamed with pride as he held his silver, but every last person in the Aquatic Center had to be blinded by the man who was beaming just a little brighter, Bert LeClos.
Deadspin has video of the proud pop being interviewed by BBC.
Every last portion of that video is pure magic. And yes, this is what the Olympics are all about, not athletes who assume they are in for gold, but those that are beyond ecstatic when they get to the podium, and the families who root them on.
I can only imagine I would be an inaudible mess if I ever had a child medal in the Olympics, let alone beat out someone with great aplomb like Phelps.
Le Clos' Afrikaans, his gruff delivery and the jovial nature the exudes from his booming voice make this the best interview of the Olympics not featuring an actual athlete.
And it's not even close.
