As Cricket Becomes Footballish

In the last few years, T20 cricket has been on the rise and it really took a quantum leap during last year's IPL.

It is clear by the public's response to this version of cricket that they would be happy just watching this and nothing else.

Now with the success of the Indian Premier League, the ECB has already talked about an English Premier League (now that football has taken Barclays Premier League as it's new title)

Stanford T20 for 20 has already happened. Though it wasn't a success because it was badly organized, it still is a continuation of the IPL idea.

The Australia KFC Big Bash has also been another domestic success.

All this makes me wonder, is test cricket dying? 

This is a question that has entered everyone's mind.

But there is another question.

Is international cricket dying?

If all these leagues come up, then it may become a football league scenario.

Do we want that?

I suppose not as we all enjoy test cricket and more importantly international cricket.

How can we let it die?

But then I gave it another thought.

What if we start having a upswing of unlimited overs cricket at the domestic level? Maybe not at the same level, but still good quality cricket.

I don't necessarily mind that. If I have international player and test like cricket or first class cricket of the best quality why shall I mind??

But before people start jumping to conclusions, I would like to say that that this is not very likely to happen.

As franchise owners want to make money and nothing else. I doubt if first class cricket will have the kind of fan following required for that.

So friends, two questions I pose:

1. Is it good if cricket becomes footballish?

2. If it does then will we be able to get in all the three versions into it. As football is of only one kind and cricket of three.
