The ICC Champions Trophy
Who will win the Champions Trophy this year. India is looking like it is in good form, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia too are in good form. But will the continue to remain in good form till the time of the tournament. It will be a tough competition.
The new players of India are performing well. The experienced players are also in good touch. Senior most player Sachin Tendulkar may do something angelic, Ricky Ponting may break some records, Gream Smith may show some new tactics, Danial Vettori may take some crucial wickets. who knows what will happen. Let us look at the team performances.
India- Both Viru and Gautam are in good form and have performed well recently. Yuvi is in red hot form and has just grabbed two Man of The Series awards. Dhoni is captaining the team well and his strategies are working. Ishant Sharma's bowling is getting degerous day by day. Who knows when Tendulkar may be on fire.
Ravinder Jadeja is doing well as a debutant. Both Pragyan Ojha and Praveen Kumar have performed well in the matches they played. Both the Pathan brothers have proved to be useful. even though Irfan Pathan has not played for a while Yusuf Pathan may do something extraordinary. Gary Kirsten has proved to be a good coach.
South Africa- They have recently defeated Australia in a ODI series. Both their wicketkeeprs(Mark Boucher and A. B de Villiers) have performed well. As far as their batting is concerned de Villiers has done quite well. Duminy and M Morkel have also done quite well in batting as well as bowling.
Amla and Kallis have done a great job with the bat and also contributed with the ball. Small contribution from Gibbs and McKenzie have helped. as far as the bowling is concerned Styne, Botha, and Duminy have dominated the bowling and the rest of the bowlers have made due small contributions.
J Morkel has just grabbed the Man of the Series award and is in good form. So overall they are in good form right no.
Australia: Even though they lost the series to South Africa they played well against New Zealand. After losing the first two matches of the ODI series they recovered and made a comeback by winning two of the remaining three matches.
They were in a good position and had a good chance of winning the series but unfortunately the last match ended without a result. The Hussey brothers did well and are in good form. Brett Lee may regain his form.
Bradd Haddin also needs to improve his wicketkeeping but has done quite well with the bat against New Zealand. But under Ricky Ponting's captaincy they have very rarely lost an ODI series. So the have a good chance.
New Zealand: Though their matches against Bangladesh were not very high scoring and the lost a match but Jacob Oram played really well. Ross Taylor is also in a red hot form. He did well in Bangladesh and also against Australia. Brendon McCullum is making small but reasonable contributions.
K. D Mills is contributing really well with the Ball and can be very dangerous. John Wright who is working with the New Zealand cricket board can help them a lot. He is a very good coach and consultant.
They are facing a great challenge right now of defeating India. Danial Vettori has a lot of things on his mind. So we have to see if his captaincy does well like it has done recently or not. As far as the Champions Trophy is concerned it depends on their performance against India.
