Olympic Tennis 2012 Results: Day 3 Scores, Analysis and More

Some big names in the tennis world competed on Day Three of the 2012 London Olympics on Monday, on both the men's and women's sides.

On the women's side, there was world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka, Venus Williams, Sara Errani, Angelique Kerber and Maria Kirilenko.

As for the men, Juan Monaco, Richard Gasquet, Milos Raonic, Marin Cilic and Andy Roddick all competed.

Azarenka defeated Irina Begu of Romania in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, advancing to the second round in London. The 22-year-old got more than she bargained for in the second set against Begu, but stormed back at the end of the match.

Williams, 32 years old and ranked No. 72 in the world, blasted through world No. 9 Errani, 6-3, 6-1. Williams last won individual gold in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, but she's won gold in doubles twice with her sister Serena, including in the 2008 Summer Games.

Germany's Kerber, No. 7 in the world, fought Petra Cetkovska to a 6-1, 3-0 advantage before Cetkovska was forced to retire from the match.

World No. 15 Kirilenko was ahead of Colombia's Mariana Duque, 6-0, 1-1, before Duque withdrew. 

Monaco, ranked No. 10 in the world, dispatched of David Goffin in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, advancing to the second round.

Gasquet disposed of the Netherlands' Robin Haase, 6-3, 6-3, setting up a matchup with Marcos Baghdatis in the second round.

The young Raonic, using his picture-perfect serve, defeats Tatsuma Ito of Japan in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. He will face Feliciano Lopez in the second round.

Cilic withstood a battle in the first set against Jurgen Melzer of Austria to win in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2.

American Roddick rounded out the top men on the day with a 7-5, 6-4, victory over Martin Klizan of Slovakia.
