Dwight Howard Trade Rumors: Why Nobody Should Believe Dwightmare Is Ending

Adam FromalJun 7, 2018

Guess what, everyone!?!?

Dwight Howard is supposedly, reportedly, definitely (but only maybe) going to get traded! We think...

According to Fox Sports' Sam Amico, the conflicted Orlando Magic center is about to be thrown out onto the trading block once more and might be moved during the beginning of August.

With Dwight Howard reiterating his wish to be traded, multiple league sources predict the Orlando Magic will again step up efforts to find their All-Star center a new team.

Several of those sources told FOX Sports Ohio on Saturday they believe Howard could be traded by the end of next week.

Howard has been at the center of trade rumors for the better part of a year. He met with new Magic general manager Rob Hennigan last week, and according to reports, said he would still like to be dealt. Otherwise, Howard reportedly indicated, he will leave via free agency at the end of the 2012-13 season.

While some sources said the Magic could possibly hold on to Howard until the February trading deadline, the majority seem to think the team will again try working the phones to see what develops.

"

Are any of these league sources named? Nope, of course not.

Anonymous sources may be correct on some occasions, and they may give me quite a bit to write about when i sit down at my computer, but their anonymity also gives them the freedom to be a bit liberal with their predictions.

One of the reasons provided by Amico's sources was that the recent hiring of Jacque Vaughn as the new head coach of the Magic might speed things up. Supposedly, Orlando doesn't want to bring Vaughn into a bad environment.

Head coaches are important, but they're not important enough to rush a trade and accept a lesser deal, especially after the Magic have been so consistent about sticking to their values and holding out for the best possible return in a Howard trade.

So, let's assume that the anonymous sources are correct up to this point, just for the sake of argument.

The trade supposedly being discussed is one that we've visited and revisited countless times: Dwight to the Los Angeles Lakers and Andrew Bynum to the Cleveland Cavaliers

What's changed? Nothing, except the date that the rumors are taking place.

At this point, we'd be foolish to believe that the Dwightmare five months before Christmas is coming to a close. Even if D12 is actually shipped to another team in the next few days, I won't feel bad about saying that.

There have been enough rumors about his inevitable trade that nothing should be considered gospel until he's actually holding up another team's jersey at a press conference.

Certainly don't count on an anonymously-sourced rumor that revisits an old—and failed—trade.
