Missy Franklin, Swimming

Meet Missy Franklin, the 17-year-old Team USA swimming sensation who is already winning medals over in London. With veteran team captain Natalie Coughlin’s time coming to an end, we are witnessing the rise of the age of Missy.

With Franklin's first Olympic medal coming in the form of a bronze awarded for her performance in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay, the young star is looking to become the female Michael Phelps and walk away from the 2012 London games covered in medals.

She has the talent to do it.

Franklin has entered a record seven events at the 30th Olympiad and looks to bring home American glory in form of the most medals in one competition by a woman swimmer; the previous record is a very obtainable six medals.

Ryan Lochte, Swimming

By now, if you care at all about the 2012 Olympics, you know exactly who Ryan Lochte is and all about his competition with teammate and Olympic legend Michael Phelps.

With Team USA’s first gold medal in any event, 2012 is setting up to be the year of dominance by not only America in swimming, but Lochte as an individual and as a teammate in the relays.

As witnessed since the 2008 Olympics, Phelps has become slightly less enamored with swimming, leaving the door wide open for an athlete as talented as Lochte.

With as much talent as anyone in the world, Lochte has proven and will continue to prove he is the best in the world.

Jacob Wukie, Brady Ellison and Jake Kaminski, Team Archery

For those who missed most of the action already, the exciting team archery competition was one of the best so far. While most Americans don’t watch the archery competition, the Team America dominance so far in 2012 has been a huge shock.

Not only did the Team USA trio of Jacob Wukie, Brady Ellison and Jake Kaminski win the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, the team beat South Korea—the odds-on favorite to win the entire competition.

Archery is truly an international event, but the United States has never been able to field a team worthy of elite status. With a silver, all the talk of a lack of not being a powerhouse in the sport is over.
