Names To Watch
Michael Phelps
There is little doubt that Team USA’s biggest star is the man who has the chance to become the most decorated Olympic star in the history of the modern Olympiad, Michael Phelps.
With eight gold medals in 2008’s Beijing Summer Olympics, Phelps proved that he was the best in the world, but many critics have claimed that he hasn’t worked as hard to return to that form.
If there wasn’t enough pressure on Phelps with the weight of the nation on his shoulders, the competition with a star like Ryan Lochte has increased the focus on the men’s division even more.
Ryan Lochte
At 27 years old, Ryan Lochte is really starting to come into his own as an Olympian.
Lochte was overshadowed by Phelps in 2008, but now that the vast majority of casual fans know who he is, the pressure is on for him to perform well.
If Lochte can swim the way he has been over the last year under the bright lights of the Summer Olympics, there is little doubt that he will not only contend for gold, but he will walk away with it all.
Rebecca Soni
There is no better American female better at the breaststroke than Rebecca Soni, and she is ready to prove her worth once again.
With her two best events scheduled—100-meter and 200-meter breaststrokes—there is little doubt that she is even stronger this time around and looking to win two gold instead of the silver and gold she won in 2008.
At 25 years old, Soni is entering the best years of her career. With the experience of the 2008 Olympics, there is no better time to continue building a legacy than right now.
