WWE News: Plans for Sheamus' Current World Title Run

Gone Baby GoneJun 4, 2018

When I first read this news, I was a bit surprised and annoyed.

Simply because there has been little work in keeping Triple H and Sheamus' friendship a secret.

Many fans feel that if it weren't for "The Cerebral Assassin's" stamp of approval, Sheamus would not have been a main-eventer this early in his career.

Sheamus' current push as World Champion is being booked similarly to how Triple H was booked when he first won the World Title in that Sheamus is being carefully protected and suffering very few clean losses.

"

Overall, "The Celtic Warrior" is not a terrible champion--not my favorite, but not the worst by far. It's just sad to see that Sheamus is looked upon so highly amongst WWE brass, based solely on his friendship with Triple H.

Ultimately, I get that "it's who you know, not what you know," that gets you far in business. However, there is something to be said for setting this aside when you have self-made stars whose talents are too good to ignore.

Although those stories are few and far between, to me they are more appreciated by fans and will always be looked upon as iconic. Don't get me wrong, Sheamus' career is nothing to sneeze at. Many will look back at his matches as legendary.

In the end, if the WWE wants to make their main titles look like they are worth anything, they need to have their champions have long, oft-defended reigns. Otherwise, we might as well toss the strap up in the air monthly and see who catches it.

Let me know your thoughts. Is Sheamus' title legacy worth protecting, or is this just another case of nepotism rearing its ugly head?
