WWE News: CM Punk Must Keep WWE Title to Validate Heel Turn
WWE has kicked off its big summer angle on the 1,000th episode of Raw by having CM Punk turn heel when he didn't help John Cena against Big Show and beat up The Rock. Now, all that remains is making sure Punk is able to look like a serious threat to the foundation of the company.
Heading into SummerSlam, it is obvious that the WWE Championship Match is going to feature Punk and John Cena.
Given that Cena has not been in the WWE title picture since last October, and because CM Punk has been champion for nearly nine months, most fans would venture to guess that Cena would win the title at SummerSlam.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Not so fast. According to a report from Figure Four Online (h/t NoDQ), the plan as it stands right now is to not have Cena walk out of the Staples Center on August 19. Interestingly, the report words it that Cena is not booked to win, as opposed to saying that Punk is booked to retain the title.
If WWE wants to make sure that Punk turns into the dastardly villain that everyone knows he can be, having him lose the title to Cena at SummerSlam makes no sense.
Right now, the clear explanation for Punk's heel turn is that he was tired of being overshadowed by "WWE guys" like Cena and Rock despite the fact that he has been champion longer than anyone since Cena back in 2006-07.
That would fit right into the Punk character, who turned face last year because he dropped a "pipe bomb," calling the company out for all its faults only for him to become just another good guy who the fans want to cheer.
But to just have Punk come out in his first pay-per-view match after the turn and lose to Cena is not going to do anyone any favors.
There is a lot of potential for Punk as a heel champion. WWE needs top heels to feud with Cena, because Big Show isn't getting it done. For Punk to lose the belt right away, WWE would be sacrificing so much story just to put the title on the Chosen One.
