Manchester United Transfer News: Midfielder Victor Wanyama an Excellent Target

Patrick ClarkeJun 7, 2018

Manchester United have their sights set on an excellent midfield target in Celtic's Victor Wanyama.

According to the UK's Daily Mail, Manchester United have joined the hunt for the 21-year-old Kenyan midfielder.

The young prospect currently plays for the Scottish Premier League's Celtic FC and the Kenyan national team. Wanyama has four goals in 29 caps with Celtic since coming over from Beerschot AC in July 2011.

What makes Wanyama such a super prospect is his closing speed and confidence on the ball, even when he is under fire in his own defensive third.

The young Kenyan never seems to panic with the ball at his feet and is constantly looking to move forward, the true sign of an intelligent and engaged defensive midfielder.

According to the Daily Mail, Wanyama is frustrated with his current role at Celtic, where he is forced to provide the last line of defense rather then take on a larger role as a defensive midfielder.

At Manchester United, Wanyama could play more naturally on the ball in midfield, where he can display his strong passing skill as well as his ability to control tempo on the ball.

His consistency is also one of his biggest strengths. There aren't many holes in Wanyama's game, and the fact that he is only 21 makes him that much more of an asset.

United fans should be thrilled that their club is targeting Wanyama this summer. According to the Daily Mail, Wanyama is interested in making a move to England, and reports are that Arsenal, QPR and Stoke all have the youngster targeted.

The Daily Mail reports that Celtic are looking for roughly £7 million in exchange for Wanyama, but that shouldn't stop United from pursuing the coveted midfielder.

If they make their best play for Wanyama, then the English Premier League runners-up will likely have the edge over their rival clubs.
