Great Britain vs. United Arab Emirates: Start Time, Stream, TV Info & Preview

Michael GuadalupeJun 7, 2018

With Great Britain suffering a unexpected setback at Old Trafford, going 1-1 with Senegal, and the United Arab Emirates team losing their first game of the Olympics, Great Britain and UAE will now square off this Sunday.

What should be expected from this game?  It might have been clear cut at first, with Great Britain being such a heavy favorite in Group A, but after being denied a win by Senegal, how much confidence do they have left?

UAE, on the other hand, qualified for the tournament unbeaten.  This was the first time that they even made it to the Olympics, and clearly have a lot to prove.  While they would lose 2-1 to Uruguay, UAE was able to take the lead after 20 minutes.  They made Uruguay fight for their win, something that was not expected.

Still the Favorite?

Great Britain could have easily been seen as the favorite to win Group A.  After their match with Senegal though, should they still be considered the favorite?

Now, as we move into Sunday's game, it has become even more of a "do or die" situation for Great Britain.  With everything the Olympics represents, and since they are the host, Great Britain needs to step up when they face off against United Arab Emirates.

Preseason is Over

One of Great Britain's biggest problems was that they were playing like it was still preseason.  Tom Cleverley lacked at midfield, Danny Rose looked like he was misplaced, and Daniel Sturridge clearly was not up to 100 percent strength after suffering from Meningitis.

If Great Britain wants to even considering winning a medal at this year's Olympics, they need stop acting like this is the preseason.  They need to be more physical, more tactical, and start playing like Great Britain's pride is on the line.

The Underdogs

The underdog team of group A is no doubt United Arab Emirates.  This is the first time that they even qualified for the Olympics, so a lot is on the line for them.

While a loss to Uruguay, 2-1, may seem like no surprise, UAE showed the world that they are ready to put up a fight.  They were able to take the lead over Uruguay by the 23rd minute, with UAE captain Ismaeil Matar scored the first goal of the game.

Uruguay was able to get the win in the end, but they had to fight for it.

After the game, Matar was quoted over at ESPN.com as saying:

"It was a high-level game. If you get a chance, you have to finish that chance."

UAE knows that Sunday is also a "do or die" situation for them as well as Great Britain.  Don't expect them to just lie down though, and let the host take the win.

Learning from Their Mistakes

Which team will be able to learn from their mistakes?  This is easily what it could take to win this match on Sunday.

Will Great Britain take UAE lightly?  They were expected to win against Senegal and ended up being denied instead.  Will they play a much more physical game?  Or still act like it's preseason?

As for UAE, they need to play with the same intensity throughout this match.  It's great that Matar was able to score a goal within the first half of their game against Uruguay, but they still let them build up momentum and out score them in the end.  A stronger defensive performance could also help UAE get the win.

Prediction

The story of an underdog is always something enjoyable to watch and read about.  Unfortunately it won’t apply here.  UAE was able to give Uruguay a run for their money at first, but in the end, simply lacked the ability to keep up.

While Great Britain also struggled in their match with Senegal, Great Britain has more depth, and once they get out of preseason mode, they will be the contender people are hoping for.

Great Britain wins it 3-0.
