Anderson Silva's Manager: Fight with GSP Is the Only One That 'Makes Sense'

John HeinisJun 7, 2018

As fans are aware, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva isn't particularly thrilled with the crop of current 185-pound title contenders.

However, readers will be anything but disappointed to hear that "The Spider's" manager, Jorge Guimaraes, is calling for UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre to step up against Silva.

"No opponent makes sense for Anderson at this moment. Unless we do a catchweight against Georges St-Pierre," Guimaraes told Tatame

"They (the UFC) didn't offer the fight, but he's the only one that could do a super fight. Anderson has the biggest paycheck in the UFC, and you can't promote an event with these amateur kids that are coming up now."

The "amateur kids" Guimaraes is referring to are Chris Weidman, Tim Boetsch and Alan Belcher, who have all recently claimed to be able to finish Silva recently.

"That's a big joke," Guimaraes said. "Everybody saw that it worked for Chael, and he got really famous with that, and now everybody wants to be in the spotlight."

Silva currently does not have a fight booked, but the long-awaited super fight with GSP is highly unlikely since "Rush" has just come back to training full-time after tearing his ACL late last year.

The 170-pound kingpin is also tentatively scheduled to face interim champ Carlos Condit at UFC 154, which takes place on Nov. 17 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
