Olympic Village Controversy: Great Britain Enjoys AC While Other Athletes Melt

Gabe ZaldivarJun 7, 2018

One controversy is lifted and another takes its place. Welcome to the 2012 London Olympics, where smooth sailing is best left to the crew teams.

The Olympic Village is hot, and I'm not just talking about the sudden influx of sultry humans who would be lambasted with pickup lines the moment they traipsed into a bar.

No, I am talking about the weather.

U.S. hurdler Lolo Jones tweets from the miserable circumstances (h/t Big Lead Sports).

"

No air conditioners. Its HOT in the rooms. No need to practice, just lay in ur bed & sweat. Where r the applications for Winter Olympics??

With no air conditioners, I imagine these athletes, who are stuck indoors while temperatures outside near the 90-degree Fahrenheit mark, are finding it hard to concentrate.

My experience tells me it's a great idea to eat ice cream in the middle of a sweltering room and wait for death to take you, but that's me.

It would be nice if there was AC. What's that you say? The Great Britain team has air conditioning?

Here is a video establishing that the home team has the benefits of a cool room while others melt. That's one way to make sure people visit your dorm room.

Perhaps if all these athletes could possibly take a dip in the nice cold pool. Wait, that water is boiling too? London should just pass out wool sweaters at this point and get it all over with.

The Associated Press reports the Aquatic Center is just as sizzling as any place in London.

"

The unexpected heat wave affecting London this week has created a greenhouse effect that sent temperatures around the pool deck and in the stands soaring to more than 30 degrees Celsius (85 Fahrenheit).

At a coaches meeting Thursday, organizers announced they were working with air conditioning units to get the pool deck temperature down to 27 degrees Celsius (80 Fahrenheit).

"

Okay, fine. If it's an off day, athletes could possibly enjoy a jaunt on a cool cable car...that broke too.

A day after North Korea left a Glasgow soccer stadium fuming over a flag flub, the heat is causing athletes from all over the world to melt away.

At least the home team will be nice and cool.
