NBA Rumors: Mickael Pietrus "Moving On" from Boston Celtics

Looks like "Air France" will not be landing in Boston.

According to Mickael Pietrus' agent, Bill McCandless, the French small forward will not be a Celtic next season.

McCandless told the Boston Herald:

"

We haven’t heard from (the Celtics), so we’ll move on. I’m not surprised. If we hear from them, Mike will be thrilled, and if not then I guess that’s life in the big city.

"

While Pietrus is holding out hope that the Celtics will offer him a contract, Boston cannot offer him very much, with the veteran's minimum being the most likely option.

McCandless has said that Pietrus is not a "veteran's minimum" player and that he has better offers on the table, including a lucrative one from an overseas team.

When taking all of this into consideration, it seems like Pietrus would be lost in the rotation even if he returned.

The Celtics added Courtney Lee and Jason Terry, two guards who will figure heavily into Boston's plans as Avery Bradley recovers from shoulder surgery.

With basically everyone back from last season, Pietrus would be a benchwarmer on Boston's ultra-deep second unit.

My money is against him getting a more lucrative offer than the minimum. Pietrus has struggled with injuries and is already 30 years old.

With most teams finished with their free agency pickups, the Frenchman might have to settle for the minimum if he wants to stay in the NBA.

Look for a team like the Los Angeles Lakers to be in play for his services, as they could use a wing player off the bench.

It is difficult to let go of such a tenacious player, who was so important to Boston's lengthy postseason run, but the move is for the best.

Good luck, Mickael, on your future basketball endeavors.
