Silas Redd: Signs Strongly Pointing Toward Penn State Star's Transfer
Silas Redd returning to Penn State should be considered a stretch at this point.
When roughly 25 Penn State players gathered to issue a statement on their intent to stay this morning, Redd was nowhere to be found. Suspicion arose, but many assumed that he was prepping for the 2012 Big Ten Media Days taking place Thursday and Friday.
Wrong.
ESPN Big Ten broke the news that no Penn State player will be present on Twitter.
"No Penn State players will attend Big Ten media days. Silas Redd, John Urschel and Jordan Hill had been scheduled to attend.
— Rittenberg/Bennett"
Hmm. All of a sudden, Redd doesn't have an excuse for being absent. Perhaps Redd missed simply because he has obligations elsewhere—like, I don't know, Southern California?
It's no secret that USC wants Redd on their team, and they've even contacted Penn State about the matter, as ESPN's Joe Schad reported.
"USC has notified PSU it is recruiting Redd, per source
— Joe Schad (@schadjoe) July 23, 2012"
Since the news broke this morning about the players not attending media days, Schad tweeted that Redd had cold feet simply because he's not sure what his future holds. Redd was contemplating not coming anyway, and Schad explains why in this tweet:
"As of this morning Redd was unsure of future and concerned about questions at media days. Either way now won't have to answer them here
— Joe Schad (@schadjoe) July 25, 2012"
I'm no psychic, but this looks an awful lot like Redd is truly considering USC. It seems Redd has one foot out of the door, and if he's at all contemplating joining the Trojans, chances are that he'll make the move.
After all, why wouldn't he?
If he's not determined to stay with Penn State and sees the grass in Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum as greener, then he should go. Should he choose to play at USC, he'll have an opportunity to play for a national championship, which is something that he won't have at Penn State.
We can speculate all day about what's truly going on in Redd's mind, but he's the only one that knows for sure. And you know, Redd may want to stay at Penn State, but he's certainly giving the fans and the media evidence to think otherwise.
