Lucas Moura: Brazil Star's Olympic Form Will Spark Move to Manchester United

Ben ChodosJun 7, 2018

Talks between Sao Paolo’s Lucas Moura and Manchester United have stagnated, but the Brazilian star’s performance during the Olympics will rekindle the negotiations.

Lucas is a spectacular winger and when Sir Alex Ferguson sees him flying down the touchline during the 2012 London Olympics, he will do what he must to keep the 19-year-old in England permanently.

United has been intrigued with the young attacker and has put out an offer of £29 million, which Sao Paolo has not seen as sufficient, according to the Daily Mail.

The report also quotes Ferguson, who remains optimistic about eventually bringing Lucas on board and said, “We haven't reached an agreement for the player. We've shown an interest but until such time we reach an agreement we can't say he's ours.”

Ferguson’s fascination is justified, as Lucas is an exciting talent. He had nine goals and two assists in 28 games for Sao Paolo in Brasileirao matches.

He has pace, skill and nose for the goal. His youth and talent make him an ideal signing for United.

Ferguson will have several chances to see Lucas’ potential first hand. He already proved capable of making dangerous runs in an exhibition game against Great Britain on July 20.

With Neymar and Ganso on his team, Lucas will have no shortage of targets to pick out as he sprints down the sideline. With so much talent in the attack, this team will surely produce a few spectacular goals.

When Ferguson sees this, he will immediately think of Lucas producing similar plays, but crossing balls and receiving passes from Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez instead of his Brazilian teammates.

United has already added two young attackers this summer. Borussia Dortmund’s Shinji Kagawa and Crewe’s Nick Powell will both be suiting up at Old Trafford this season. Adding Lucas to that list would certainly make United one of the winners of the transfer window.

The team had a disappointing season in 2011-12, losing the English Premier League to Manchester City on the final day, in addition to making an early exit in the Champions League. Ferguson recognized that an infusion of talent was needed, and that is what he has been busy with this summer.

Adding Lucas to United’s array of talent up front will make them extremely dangerous. Ferguson knows this, and the visual reminder of seeing Lucas play at the Olympics will ensure that the rising star is wearing red before Premiership matches begin.
