Chelsea Transfer News: Oscar Officially Joins Blues

Timothy RappJul 25, 2012

It's official—exciting Brazilian international Oscar is the newest member of Chelsea.

The team's website made the announcement on Wednesday:

"

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Oscar.

Oscar, full name Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Junior, who will be 21 in September, is a Brazilian international who played for two clubs in his homeland prior to his move.

While the financial terms are not currently available, it was rumored before the signing became official that the move could be in the £25 million range.

Oscar is the latest in a busy offseason for the Blues, who also added premier young talent Eden Hazard and winger Marko Marin. Chelsea's press release described the player as follows:

"

A 5ft 10in (1.79m) attacking midfielder who can play wide, he has a reputation for good pass-and-move football, protecting the ball and choosing the right moment to play passes.

"

Clearly, Chelsea are looking to become a more exciting, crisp-passing team, rather than the often plodding and defensive-oriented squad that won the Champions' League title but finished sixth on the Premier League table last season.

Oscar will certainly help.

For one, he's capable of playing centrally as a midfielder or second striker, and he can also play on either wing. He'll bring excellent versatility to the side.

Molded in the Brazilian style, Oscar combines flair in his play alongside excellent technical abilities. His first instinct is to attack, and his pace, ability on the ball, vision and precise passing ensure that he is a force in the midfield or attacking third.

He is also a very good finisher, scoring 11 goals in 40 appearances for Internacional in all competitions last season.

It's a great move for Chelsea, and another sign that the Blues will be one of Europe's most exciting teams to watch next season.
