Thorgan Hazard: Chelsea Wise to Take Full Advantage of Eden Hazard Signing

Chelsea sees the big picture.

On Tuesday, the football club confirmed on their official website that they had signed Lens midfielder Thorgan Hazard. Given that everything seems to be going the Blues' way this summer, the news was no surprise.

They finished an unimpressive sixth in the Premier League standings last season, but they got hot at the right time. Chelsea rode their newfound momentum all the way to a European Cup title, which was enough to convince the highly sought-after Eden Hazard to sign in Fulham.

But not only did they out-snipe heavily favored EPL powerhouses in Manchester United and Manchester City for Eden’s services, they got his brother too.

At 19 years old, Thorgan likely won’t make an instant impact. For now, he’ll play on the Blues' Under-21 team. But again, looking at the big picture, the acquisition was huge.

Thorgan is an investment that will pay dividends in the future. He has the potential to develop into a superstar. While Eden will help the club win this year, soon enough the two will be playing alongside each other dominating the Premier League.

According to Hocine Harzoune of Goal.com, retired footballer and Thorgan mentor Éric Assadourian raved about the young gun’s ceiling. Assadourian said:

Thorgan has great technique, but from an athletic point of view, he lacks power. He has to find a way to repeating those good things of which he is capable. He has to gain volume in a game and to let himself go more often. He is the creator, he is capable of guiding the other players and making the play.

Chelsea began the transfer window knowing Didier Drogba was as good as gone. They had to make a major splash, but no one, not even Blues fans, predicted that their offseason would be this successful.

Thanks to the pair of strategic transactions, Chelsea’s future looks extremely bright.
