Chelsea Transfer Rumors: Victor Moses Nice Fit If Andre Schurrle Can't Be Signed

Timothy RappJun 7, 2018

If you thought Chelsea was going to stop making moves after signing Eden Hazard and Marko Marin, you had another thing coming.

The team continues its pursuit to add speed and class on the wings. The most realistic option at this point is Wigan's Victor Moses, especially if Chelsea can't land a Bundesliga starlet they've been thought to covet.

The Blues are keen to bring in another wideman this summer, despite the arrivals of Eden Hazard and Marko Marin for a combined £38 million, having told Florent Malouda and Yossi Benayoun they are free to quit the club.

Bayern Leverkusen flyer Andre Schurrle is Chelsea's top target, but manager Roberto Di Matteo has been put off by his £25 million asking price and is now weighing up other options.

Di Matteo is a long-term admirer of Nigeria international Moses, but like Schurrle, he has baulked at the asking price having already seen an £6 million bid knocked back by Wigan supremo Dave Whelan.

Obviously, Schurrle would be the most appealing option, but it seems unlikely Leverkusen will allow a transfer to Stamford Bridge unless the Blues blow them away with an offer.

That makes Moses a very nice backup plan for the squad, though they may have to up their bid to £10 million to land the Nigerian winger.

Adding depth on the wings will allow Roberto Di Matteo to use Juan Mata as a center-forward or second striker. It will also allow him to rotate Eden Hazard between a slot on one of the wings and a role similar to Mata's when the Spaniard isn't available.

The addition of another winger isn't necessary, but it would give Chelsea excellent versatility and depth, which is something that any squad trying to endure such a grueling season would need.

The 21-year-old Moses wouldn't be expected to start for Chelsea next season, but after a season that saw him score six goals and make 39 appearances for Wigan, he would certainly be expected to contribute.

Moses would certainly be a smart, if not somewhat pricey signing for the role he would fill for Chelsea. He would be one more reason why the Blues will be a force to be reckoned with this year.
