Transfer Tracker: Joe Allen, Luka Modric, Lucas Moura, Thierry Henry
It's never too soon—or too late—for a footballer to think about his future.
That's the theme of Wednesday's edition of the B/R Transfer Tracker.
Lucas Moura's potential move to Manchester United seemed doubtful just a day ago. But on Wednesday, a high-ranking Sao Paulo official cast doubt on that doubt.
Meanwhile, another serious bidder could soon emerge in the Luka Modric transfer saga, and Liverpool could be on the brink of their second signing under new manager Brendan Rodgers.
Finally, we have speculative news about the futures of Thierry Henry and Gerard Pique.
All the details await inside.
Lucas Deal Not Dead?
1 of 5Lucas Moura's rumored move to Manchester United is not dead, according to his club Sao Paulo (ESPNSoccernet).
Sao Paulo vice president Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopez told Radio Estadao ESPN: "I don't rule out the possibility that in the future we open negotiations with Manchester United as we received them with great courtesy."
Lopez also said United could still make another offer for Lucas, a 19-year-old attacking midfielder. Earlier this week, Lucas' agent said he thought the deal was dead because United would not raise their offer from €35 million.
PSG Ready to Hijack Modric Move?
2 of 5Paris Saint-Germain could be ready to top Real Madrid's offer and match Tottenham Hotspur's asking price for midfielder Luka Modric (The Guardian).
The Guardian reports that Modric, a 26-year-old Croatia international, has not shown interest in joining PSG. But PSG are reportedly willing to match Spurs' £40 million valuation.
Modric still prefers a move to Real Madrid, according to the article.
Liverpool Chasing Joe Allen
3 of 5Liverpool have agreed to a £13.5 million fee with Swansea City for 22-year-old Welsh midfielder Joe Allen, according to Goal.com.
Allen would be Liverpool's second signing under new manager Brendan Rodgers, who joined from Swansea City this summer. Italian striker Fabio Borini joined earlier this month.
Allen has earned eight senior caps for Wales and was selected for Great Britain's Olympics team.
Henry Back for More?
4 of 5Arsenal legend Thierry Henry "expects" to rejoin the Gunners as a player or coach (Daily Mail).
Henry, 34, scored a club-record 226 goals for Arsenal from 1999-2007 and returned for a two-month cameo in early 2012 (when he scored two more).
He has 18 months remaining on his contract with the New York Red Bulls of America's Major League Soccer.
"I would like to go back to England with Arsenal for sure," Henry said.
China in Pique's Future
5 of 5Spain and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique could play in China one day, according to quotes attributed to Pique (Goal.com).
"“I’m very happy playing for a team like Barca," Pique explained during a Q&A session with fans on Chinese website Tencent Weibo.
"
"But, as a professional player, my future has a lot of possibilities. I really like China, I’ve had a marvellous time here ... "
Looks like a couple of selectively edited quotes, but you never know what the future holds. Right?
