PES 2013 Demo: Impressions and Gameplay from Konami's New World Football Title

Brian MaziqueMay 31, 2018

This year's new world football video game simulations are almost here and Konami is first to market with their demo.

If nothing else the introduction makes a statement with Cristiano Ronaldo as the cover athlete. The demo has been released for Xbox 360, and it should be arriving shortly for the PS3—if it hasn't already by the time you read this.

The full game releases on September 25.

The demo is pretty slick with its presentation, but the gameplay doesn't include any commentary. This is something that gamers have become accustomed to with sports video game demo downloads.

Sound files are huge and they can drastically increase the size of a game to download, and developers generally seem to want to hold somethings back from the demo.

Here's an example of some very novice gameplay, which features Portugal vs. Germany:

There are eight playable teams available in the demo: England, Germany, Portugal and Italy for the international teams, and as a part of the Copa Libertadores mode, the demo also includes: Santos FC, SC International, Fluminense and Flamengo.

The game plays much faster than FIFA in my opinion, but that may not be a good thing for some football purists. It lends itself to much more wide-open play, and it appears that controlling and maintaining control against tackle attempts are easier.

If you are a FIFA player, it may take a few matches before you totally get the hang of the controls, but the graphics and animation are sharp, so that's an initial attraction.

Also, the Dynamic First-Touch System system is a different spin on making and controlling passes. I found it more user-friendly than FIFA 12, but not necessarily more realistic.

It's certainly worth a look as a demo download, but it remains to be seen whether it is enough to win over the staunch FIFA player.
