Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Gunners Must Close the Deal on Santi Cazorla

Patrick ClarkeJun 7, 2018

Arsenal must close the deal on Santi Cazorla, considering all of the uncertainty surrounding the club after Robin van Persie announced he would not re-sign with the squad this summer.

The Gunners and the Spanish midfielder have a mutual interest in each other, according to the UK's Mirror.

According to the report, Cazorla could be snatched from his current club, Malaga for £16 million because of the financial turmoil the Spanish club is in at the moment.

Although Cazorla wouldn't completely fill the void eventually left by van Persie, who led the English Premier League last season with 30 goals, he would bring experience and skill to the lineup. Cazorla has played at both the club and national team level. He has 45 caps with the Spanish national team and even made two appearances for the Euro 2012 champions this summer.

Cazorla's skill was evidenced last season with Malaga. The 27-year-old made 40 starts, scoring nine goals and tallying five assists in all competitions.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could surely develop Cazorla into a more threatening talent once the van Persie drama is sorted out. He shows great promise in the Arsenal midfield, as a phenomenal player on the ball and an effortless creator.

The bargain at which the Gunners could acquire Cazorla make this potential transfer even more of a must. According to the Mirror, Cazorla's buy-out clause is £45 million, but could be slashed to nearly a third of that because of Malaga's financial situation.

This scenario would be a steal for Arsenal, who desperately need to fill their lineup with talent to overcome the impending loss of van Persie.

The Gunners must do everything they can to close the deal on the rumored Santi Cazorla transfer. He is a supreme talent that fills a need and can be gotten cheap. It makes perfects sense for both Arsenal and Cazorla.
