Lucas Moura: Brazilian Would Give Manchester United Premier League Edge

David DanielsJun 7, 2018

Lucas Moura is special.

Manchester United is linked to the 19-year-old Brazilian midfielder. If they acquire him, he’ll give them the edge over Manchester City, Chelsea and any other competition for the Premier League title.

David McDonnell of Mirror Football reported on Monday that Sir Alex Ferguson strongly desires to sign Moura. He said of the noise Man Utd. has made in the transfer window thus far:

"

We've signed two players in the summer: [Shinji] Kagawa and [Nick] Powell. We think they both have fantastic potential. At this moment, we're looking at other options in terms of bringing other players in. We're not lying on our backsides doing nothing. We're trying hard to bring other players to the club.

"

Talks between the Red Devils and Sao Paulo have supposedly hit a snag, though.

According to the Daily Mail, the deal that looked so close to going down is dead, at least for now. Moura’s agent said of the halted progress:

"

They have reached their limit. Lucas Moura won’t leave. He is happy at Sao Paulo. We have to forget this subject. There is no possibility he leaves now. Manchester United made an offer, which was rejected and they won’t make another one as they have reached their limit.

"

Now, just because an agent believes a transfer isn’t happening doesn’t mean that circumstances can’t change. The window doesn’t close for over a month. And if Ferguson re-ignites the talks, Moura would make Man Utd. obvious EPL favorites.

They barely lost to the crown last season. After making a major splash in acquiring Kagawa, they’re arguably the team to beat already. With Moura in the fold too, though, there’d be no question.

According to Daniel Edwards of Goal.com, former San Paulo goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni didn’t hesitate in labeling Moura the next big thing. He said, “We need to appreciate this kid. He will be, no doubt about it, the star of the decade for this club; just like Kaka was in the 2000s and Denilson in the 1990s.”

Time will tell if Ferguson thinks as highly of Moura as Ceni does and if he’s worth his £30 million price tag.
