Santi Cazorla: Spanish Winger Should Be Enough to Convince RVP to Stay

Robin van Persie’s true motive is about to be revealed.

Arsenal made yet another major move this transfer period agreeing to terms with Santi Cazorla. If RVP’s No. 1 priority is winning, then he’ll sign a contract extension with the Gunners. But if money is on his mind as well, Arsene Wenger’s club never had a chance.

Sid Lowe and David Hytner of The Guardian reported on Monday that Arsenal had come to an agreement with Cazorla, and the only thing standing in between him and London was for Málaga to accept the Gunners’ offer of €20 million.

Wenger has made more noise than any other Premier League manager this summer. Sure, he hasn’t reeled in a big fish like Eden Hazard or Shinji Kagawa, but he’s acquired multiple significant upgrades and that should be enough to please Van Persie.

On July 4, the EPL’s leading goal scorer released a statement on his official website that he didn’t plan on extending his contract with the Gunners. His announcement read:

I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days. Out of my huge respect for Mr. Wenger, the players and the fans I don’t want to go into any details, but unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward.

"

Note a few keywords: “win," “trophies," “glory days.”

If van Persie is actually focused on those things, the acquisitions of Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski and Cazorla should be enough to persuade him to come back. But again, many fans have speculated that money has been his motive all along. If he doesn’t change his tune about his future in Holloway, RVP will be exposed as fake.
