Don't Believe Everything You Read About Honda's Formula One Team!
I suppose I should be excited that the BBC Web site is running the story about Richard Bransonโs supposed interest in Honda F1. However, in actuality, I feel nothing. The BBC have, throughout the Honda saga, grabbed a piece of information and run with it.ย
One day the Web site tells us โX investorโ is almost definitely going to save Honda, and then a couple of days later we get a smaller story explaining that Mr. X was never interested. Does anyone else remember who blew the Carlos Slim affair way out of proportion?
Another thing that puts a seed of doubt in my mind is the fact that, yet again, the official F1 Web site has not run with a Honda buyout story (as they did not with the very short Petronas theory).
Donโt get me wrong, I would love more than anything for the Branson/Virgin story to be true. Iโm just concerned and I just remember the fact that of the very first three big suggested buyers, not one still remains.
I donโt know; itโs hard to explain, it just seems to me that the whole article has stemmed from Mr Branson apparently saying to Bernie Ecclestone that he would love to take over the Honda team.
First of all, so would I, but I havenโt got the cash at the moment so thatโs never going to happen. Secondly did Branson follow that statement with a โbutโ and thirdly it could have just been something he said as part of a general conversation.
Branson has also said that he sees F1 as a "big black hole for money" so I could have written an article stating that there was no chance of a Virgin buyout simply because of that statement.
I think, as always, the only thing to do is to wait and see. I just felt I had to write this article to vent some frustration at journalists that get my hopes up only to dismiss them the next day.
Iโd love to see Jenson in a red Mercedes powered car next year. Whether I will or not will probably only be answered on the 29th of March.
