Penn State Football: Is Silas Redd Heading to USC?
Could Silas Redd suit up for the Trojans in 2012? It certainly appears to be a possibility.
Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse for the troubled Penn State football program, ESPN's Joe Schad reports that Lane Kiffin and Co. are contacting Redd about a possible transfer.
USC are no stranger to sanctions, and are currently going through probation for the Reggie Bush scandal from a few years ago. The irony of one program undergoing sanctions plucking a player from a newly wounded former football power isn't all that surprising.
Only in college football.
The fact that the Trojans are considering even taking another player insinuates that they are very serious about bring Redd into the fold.
USC has had less room in each incoming class similar to what PSU will be facing, and if they are willing to make room for the Nittany Lion tailback, that has to make you cringe if you are a fan in Happy Valley.
Why leave?
Well that is simple. No chance to play in a bowl game, which means no chance at the prestigious Rose Bowl, and also no shot at the Big Ten title game. For many elite talents this would be a no-brainer.
Not to mention playing at USC means the opportunity to win, and win big.
If you haven't noticed the Trojans are loaded in 2012. Robert Woods and Heisman hopeful Matt Barkley are on of the best duos in the nation, and adding Redd would make an already potent offense flat out scary.
Redd is a great talent and had an outstanding season one year ago rushing for 1,241 yards and seven scores. USC is likely trying to fill the void at RB created when former Trojan Amir Carlisle opted to transfer to Notre Dame this offseason.
You can't blame the young man, after all this isn't the Penn State he signed on for.
Hell this isn't the Penn State anyone signed up for,and over the last year the image of what Joe Paterno was known for across the country has been revealed to be a lie.
For new head coach Bill O'Brien, all you can pitch is playing time and loyalty, you really don't have much of a play here.
As for Redd, you are a young man with a load of talent, and can move from Pennsylvania to Southern California, the choice seems rather easy doesn't it?
Will Redd depart for greener pastures?
