WWE: AJ Named the New General Manager of Monday Night Raw

Matthew MaloneJun 4, 2018

As promised, WWE has announced a new General Manager for the Raw Brand: Ms. April Jeanette Mendez, or simply, AJ.

They say every girl dreams of her perfect wedding, but few imagine that their Cinderella story will end with them using their special day as a platform to announce their next career move.

AJ, like so many 21st century working women, was forced to make the difficult choice between her job and her love life, and in the end she went with the power.

Her decision to ditch the (somewhat) fairy tale ending and make a grab for authority was a progressive move. Maybe not for women everywhere, but at least for the women of the WWE.

WWE Divas have spent the better half of the last two decades as ring valets and mud wrestlers, so it is refreshing to see AJ break the mold and join Stephanie McMahon and Vicki Guerrero as one of the only three women to control either the Raw or SmackDown brand.

So now we know who the next General Manager is, but there is still much question as to what kind of General Manager AJ will be.

Perhaps she will go the way of Teddy Long or Mick Foley and be a crowd-pleasing baby face. Maybe her actions will be made in the name of positive crowd reactions and even-handed justice. Or, perhaps, she will let her self-interests get the best of her.

She may follow in the footsteps of Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis and play the role of overbearing authority figure.

Best-case scenario: She rides the fence. Not in a “what the hell is going on here” Anonymous GM kind of way, but more in a “what do you think she is up to?” kind of way.

For the past two months, AJ has done an amazing job keeping her intentions with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan cryptic, and even if the outcome was a bit baffling, it doesn't change the fact that she has found a niche in the WWE Universe.

As of this moment, there is really no guessing what the reign of AJ will be like, but that's half the fun of it.

Don't forget to comment below and weigh in on what kind of a GM you think AJ will be.
